Bumped: Anna Pihl

SBS changes times for one of the its few foreign-language shows screening in primetime.

It’s not too often that SBS moves its progamming around, but today it has announced Danish drama Anna Pihl will be moving slots.

The police drama had been airing at 8:30pm Wednesdays.

From October 27 it moves to 10:05pm, to be replaced by repeats of Inside the Seven Wonders of the Muslim World. A week later Inside the Saudi Kingdom airs at 8:30pm.

As a result the 10pm Movie: Un Secret is now out on October 27.

Of some concern is the point that Anna Pihl is one of the few foreign-language shows that SBS has been screening in prime time on SBS ONE.

  1. Please bring Anna Pihl back to 8.30 or 9.30. I do not wish to view the series as
suggested via SBS’s web-player or have to purchase from the SBS shop. It is an entertaining police series with interesting family dimensions – another great show on SBS! It has been a challenge following the show (time slot) but worth it.

  2. I have watched what I think is the last episode of Anna Pihl……where the Mikala (The blonde police woman is in jail for a year) There was no information as to whether we can expect another series…..anybody have any information. I too have been following the program and was disappointed at the time change…

  3. Thanks very much, Stan. I forgot about “Anna Pihl” this week because it was on even later than the last few weeks and your information enabled me to watch it. Even though we usually have trouble watching shows as they download because we have to have satellite broadband it went without a hitch except for a short tine in the middle when it paused a few times.

Apparently it is the last episode of the second season next week and there is another season to come.

  4. Just started to look forward to Anna Pihl on Wed nights. A rare good quality police drama with sub-titles, so no problems with dialogue being obliterated by unnecessary music-even the more rare.
Great timing due to the recent demise of The Bill on ABC. Why bump it ?

  5. I’ve watched all the Danish TV shows and was enjoying Anna Pihl so much then you moved it and it is too late and I can’t tape it Must try and find a DVD of it.

  6. I’ d love Anna to be returned to the 8:30 timeslot as well, as much as I enjoy docos, having a well-made foreign language drama to watch each week is something I’m missing. I hope Unit One is to be aired again as I missed it the first time.

  7. TV is worth watching when it’s SBS. Great channel. But why has Anna Pihl been moved to such a late time ? Loving the Danish very much, the language also 🙂 But when it’s so late…..I’m tired too ! But I like the show, so I guess I’m committed now.

  8. Bring Anna Pihl back to 8.30pm. You were on a good thing and then messed around with it with unwanted shows. Put those other ones on later. Leave Anna Pihl back where it was and allow the audience to grow. More and more people are discovering Anna Pihl. Come on SBS respect your audience.

  9. We really do enjoy Anna Pihl, we both work and this is far too late for us to sit up and watch, is it possible to move it back to the original time slot of 8.30. . I know that our neighbours love it as well, but too late for them also. What have you replaced it with, repeats, I cannot believe SBS’s logic.

  10. I had set the VCR to tape Anna Pihl while overseas recently, and arrived home to find that I had a lengthy program about Islam, instead of AP. I thought I had made a mistake with the setting of the equipment, but now I find that AP has been “bumped” to a late time slot. Why is this??? Not impressed.

  11. Lise, you can watch Anna Pihl via SBS’s web-player for up to a week after broadcast (with subtitles).

Every little thing SBS does these days seem to incite the same, unoriginal responses, mostly calling on them to merge with ABC. So, they bump this program up to 10pm? Who cares!? It’s still on, isn’t? Are we forgetting all the good work they do outside primetime SBS One, all of SBS Two, their four radio networks & websites? Of course we are! Why miss the chance to jump on a crowded bandwagon when it looks like everybody is having so much fun.

Yet, I never hear anybody calling for ACMA to merge Nine & Seven’s television license when they’re pretty much identical in every way.

  12. Gods no, SBS axing staff and moving great Danish shows like Anna Pihl to late night, heck as someone said above pseudo-commercial network. Hell after they got rid of David & Margaret, things really started changing. Whilst Anna Pihl is not the calibre of the other two briliant Danish shows Unit One and the Eagle I absolutely love this show. Oh well like most of telly I’ll just tape it. Shame it can’t be downloaded as its all in Danish without subtitles. TV really doesn’t get it.

  13. SBS should be embracing its uniqueness and focus on its multicultural charter, not abandoning it by bumping any foreign-language material out of prime time and trying to be both a pseudo-ABC and pseudo-commercial network.

  14. We normally enjoy foreign cop shows, especially the recent Danish ones, but this one was a real dud.
Mind you, there’s no way I’d watch the programs you’ve said will replace it.
