Nine promising “big surprise”

What big announcement, to be made shortly, is Nine hinting at?

Maybe I am overreacting, but I thought this is something you guys could have a little fun with…

At the end of Nine’s 2011 launch tomorrow in Sydney, there could be something extra-special being unveiled.

Nine Managing Director Jeffrey Browne has personally told me in the last week -not once but twice- that there will be a “big surprise” announced at the end of the launch.

The impression I get is that it’s not just a new show to be revealed.

Hmmmmmm…..I don’t really see how it can be a new channel. So is the primary channel switching to HD? Is TCN going to move house? Is Charlie Sheen going to make a personal appearance and apologise for his indiscretions and relentless repeats (which quite frankly are also indiscretions)?

You guys are always great with theories, so over to you….

Update: The surprise is PBL Media group rebrands as Nine Entertainment Co.

  1. Nine has announced a ban on all cosmetic surgery (including hair pieces and teeth whitening) for its presenters… that would be a surprise…

expect to see a bald Bert in 2011, perhaps hosting a cooking show being presented on a shiny floor 🙂

  2. 1. They are never taking Hey Hey off air ever again.
    2. They are never showing sport on 9 ever again.
    3. They have bought Big Brother.
    4. They will start programs on time.

I’d be happy with any of these!

  3. They have already won the rights for the next AFL TV deal for all 9 games.
Eddie to present Andrew Demetriou with large novelty cheque for 1 Billion Dollars. Eddie then turns to the camera and tells channel 7 to suck on that.

  4. Nothing they can do will be a “good surprise” … they are without question the most annoying network in Aus and will never improve until someone who loves TV takes them over!

I love some of the suggstions below … Donald, Bogues, Boogie Howser, Sam, …

  5. I think that they are going to change their on-screen presentation to something like in 2005, like with the colours for every day. I’d like that back.Hopefully they get rid of GEM or somehow make that SD, and similcast Nine In HD and SD. Hopefully – but thats a dream come true. lol

  6. I think Nine will announce that it has either:
    1. won the AFL TV rights for 2012-2016
    2. poached one of US program suppliers from Channel Seven
    3. signed a long-term program supply deal with BBC Worldwide

  7. What a pack of cynical bastards you all are. How about someone saying something positive for a change? We got it. Nine have pissed a lot of us of. Lets move on…

    Anyway, I’d like to suggest:
    They’ve signed Hamish and Andy?
Poached someone big from Seven? Mel? Kochie?(Ewwww)
Bringing Ellen out for a series of Aussie shows?
