TEN dumps Neighbours -it’s Eleven all the way

TEN has reversed a decision to return Neighbours on January 3rd and will now air the soap exclusively on ELEVEN from January 11.

TEN has reversed a decision to return Neighbours on January 3rd and will now air the soap exclusively on ELEVEN from January 11.

Initially it was going to return on TEN and then simulcast on both channels from January 11.

But the change of heart makes sense in making the show synonymous with the new channel, and now that ELEVEN will be available in many regional areas there is less chance of viewers missing out.

In its place will be Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals on TEN.

  1. I know they said The Simpsons were moving to CH11 but does that mean the premier new eps or just the reruns? I’d assume when it comes back at least one new ep a week on TEN and then re-runs 5-7 days a week on CH11.

    1. New Simpsons only on ELEVEN. It’s unclear regarding reruns at the moment, they are supposedly only on ELEVEN. Prisoner coming to 111 HITS in March not ELEVEN. Those commenting on the US content should remember it is a joint venture with CBS.

  2. @michael, I had a few problems with one of my STB’s, even though I rescanned it kept doing what you described, I needed to do a reset to cancel all settings then run a rescan. hopefully you’ll be able to fix it, try things like rescan, reset, factory settings, delete the existing channel, whatever of those options your machine offers.

  3. Why would you want it back on Jan 3 – that’s a public holiday, and most people will still be on summer holidays. The only reason Ten would bring it back so early is to get a few drama points.

Returning the following week makes sense, but the simulcast idea should be kept for the fortnight until the 6:30pm news comes online.

  4. I quite like neighbours (been watching since it started!) and as a foxtel satelliete subscriber I was pleased they were going to simulcast. But this news is a bit dissapointing. While I could I suppose dig out the old SD box and hook it up and switch it over every night just to watch neighbours… it sounds like a lot of effort just for one show.

Any word on when or even if we satellite folk will get Eleven? And will it still be available to watch online at least? I’d like to say that will be my solution, but I always have trouble streaming from TEN….

  5. i know this is slightly off topic i have got eleven and according to my set top box channel 11 is a HD channel (its screening ONE at the moment) eleven is instead showing up on channel 360

  6. Just terrific for the Griffith viewers. We get TEN and than 6 weeks later we loss half its popular programming. Metro, Southern Cross, and Tazzy are all getting the channel, but Griffith, WA, and SA miss out. In Griff Win Corp need to pull their finger out and get the region up to date cause this is rediculous. Same goes for the other owners in other regions that are being cheap!

  7. I’m hoping it’ll still be on TEN Darwin because the missus will be pretty pi**ed off if its not as we have had no word of ELEVEN even starting up here yet

  8. The Neighbours ‘Hello to Eleven’ promo is quite brilliant.
Not sure whether Eleven will keep the ‘Hello’ branding considering Go! have trumped them with their Hello Go! 2011 promos using the latest Potbelleez track “Hello! Are you ready to go?”.

  9. @ Anthony Mai: completely agree with you – the Neighbours “Hello” promo is stunning. I’ve watched it about 15 times on youtube and I’m still not sick of it – hopefully people see the promo and start tuning in to Neighbours more.

Also, on a side note, I think the “Hello” branding for 11 is brilliant – hope they keep the slogan once 11 actually launches.

  10. yep that dose make more sense hey ten here is an idea how about bringing back big brother in 2011 you could do it like the uk did the daily highlights show and evictions on the main channel and all other shows on 11 it would be ideal

  11. With the 11th being a Tuesday, they will need to have a double episode within the first week or the scheduling will be out of sync (Monday’s episode will be shown on Tuesday, Tuesday’s will be on Wednesday, etc.) This will affect their “Next Week on Neighbours” promo at the end of Friday’s episode and “Last Week on Neighbours” on Monday’s episode. Also, if there are any references to the date in the storylines they will be wrong, such as if they have a Valentine’s Day episode in February. But it wouldn’t surprise me if the programmers don’t care about that.

  12. “the change of heart makes sense”

It’s easily arguable that the majority of the demographic for this show would be some of those least likely to have yet changed to digital (unless having been forced to).

The change only ‘makes sense’ if they’re trying to cut the overall audience numbers. One doubts that’s an actual aim? This wouldn’t be a bad thing if they had some plan to grow the audience base in the future, but numbers have already been slipping, so it’s difficult to imagine how this might be achieved.

  13. I don’t think this makes sense at all. It’s very short sighted.

By simulcasting ‘Neighbours’ on both Ten and Eleven for the first week, the soap was going to have a bigger audience sampling for that week (and hopefully get ‘hooked’ on the soap’s storylines)

By simulcasting, ‘Neighbours’ probably stood a good chance of pulling about 500,000 viewers on Ten, and another 100,000 or so over on Eleven.

That is an average of 600,000 over the week.

When it moved to Eleven exclusively from Jan 11th, hopefully a good chunk of those 600k viewers would have followed the soap over.

Now by premiering solely on Eleven, they may get 250,000 from day one. They are missing out all that extra sampling that Ten would have got them. And with the soap having been of air for 5 weeks or so, I worry not many people will follow it to Eleven.

The week long simulast on Eleven was the perfect way to get more sampling before the shift to Eleven.
