Hey Hey talks resume

"We still remain eager and optimistic about the future," Daryl Somers tells Hey Hey fans.

This week Daryl Somers told Hey Hey it’s Saturday fans that discussions on the future of the show were back on the agenda.

On the Hey Hey Facebook page, he expressed concern for victims of the floods and added:

“On the television front there is nothing concrete to announce other than talks are resuming with Nine re: Hey Hey. We still remain eager and optimistic about the future but only time will tell.

“I’ll report back in due course but for the moment urge you to give what you can to those in need.”

In Nine promos claiming the channel as ‘The Home of Laughter’ in 2011, attention has swung to Ben Elton and US imports including new shows for William Shatner, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and comedies by Chuck Lorre.

Facebook fans who were pivotal to the show’s revival continue to plead with Nine to renew Hey Hey and are campaigning for Logie votes.

  1. I used to be a regukar HHIS fan, but after watching the specials(2009) and a few eps last year, it should of stayed ended in 1999(when the series ended). Tired, cliched, not funny jokes etc.
Daryl, take some words of advice, let the show finish, it is outdated and not relevant to 2011!!!

  2. Give it up already Daryl. You’ve already ruined what great memories people did have of the show. A reunion special, yeah great, but bringing it back was a mistake. The show is in the past and is now a complete embarrassment and still using the same gags. It’s quite sad really. I think it’s just an excuse for Daryl to feel important. What else will he do??

  3. (I dont like nor have anything against the show)

Anyone with a bit of common sense and inside knowledge (nor a massive fan of the show) can see what’s happening. If Nine and major sponsors were keen on bringing it back from the dead, they would have done it a month ago when it first went into talks. I can see that due to the long process of ‘talks’ its future is looking least likely. The longer the talks, the more hope fades, from what I have seen in past experiences.

Maybe Nine and sponsors dont want to let down the cast or upset facebook followers, just yet, but at the end of the day it declined in viewers from 2-3 million to 650 000 despite coming ‘5th on a Saturday night’ (Which depends on the other ratings that night).

Personally I can see that if it doesn’t get renewed, Nine will come under attack from a small group of facebook fans but as weeks go by, 95% fans will get over and move on..despite some fans saying ‘We wont forget or lets boycott Nine’.

  4. Just put the show to sleep already.. Its time to see something new.. come on channel9! invest the money into a new show which will get the better ratings. Stop living in the living in the past..

  5. “I say axed it – Daryl’s head can’t get any bigger and he need to be taken down a peg or ten. Maybe this will teach Daryl if God forbid he makes and has another show, do not rest on your laurels. It’s not 1971. It’s not 1999. It’s 2010. Times change.”
    I totally agree Dylan. But it’s 2011 now 🙂

  6. If they decide to bring it back they need to replace Livinia Nixon, as lovely as she is she is not funny. Someone like Julia Morris or Corinne Grant would do a better job as the sidekick. But i’d prefer it didn’t come back.

  7. I say stick it on GO! at 6:30pm on a Saturday night…give it it’s traditional slot for a 10 week run – (rather than moving things around all the time like Nine/GO!/GEM seem to do a lot of) – and see how it goes.

  8. its still has a place…but only in specials…. this way they can attaract big name acts to be on the show….i’d like to see maybe 4 3hr specials spread over the year…at least this way if it was done like this and still didnt rate…then off to the same fate as GTV 9 Melbourne Studio 9…sell it off for apartments…

  9. Oh, so desperate Daryl. He can tell nothing is going to happen. Instead of refreshing Hey Hey last year when he had the chance and being greedy with the number of episodes in the season(s) to make the show more entertaining, less cringeworthy, relevant and special by leaving us wanting more, desperate Daryl is leaving for his Hey Hey cult members to pester Nine.

He clearly knows every time he posts something on Facebook, his fans will listen and act and her blog and the Herald Sun will do a story.

Wow, I can believe I agree with a decision made by the suits at Channel Nine. Rant over.
