Hey Hey talks resume

"We still remain eager and optimistic about the future," Daryl Somers tells Hey Hey fans.

This week Daryl Somers told Hey Hey it’s Saturday fans that discussions on the future of the show were back on the agenda.

On the Hey Hey Facebook page, he expressed concern for victims of the floods and added:

“On the television front there is nothing concrete to announce other than talks are resuming with Nine re: Hey Hey. We still remain eager and optimistic about the future but only time will tell.

“I’ll report back in due course but for the moment urge you to give what you can to those in need.”

In Nine promos claiming the channel as ‘The Home of Laughter’ in 2011, attention has swung to Ben Elton and US imports including new shows for William Shatner, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and comedies by Chuck Lorre.

Facebook fans who were pivotal to the show’s revival continue to plead with Nine to renew Hey Hey and are campaigning for Logie votes.

Mork and Mindy, I love Lucy, Laverne and Sherley – happy Days – Most of these shows are still played on Digital Free TV Still – arent those old shows???? – they are even older than 10 years!!!!! – your contradicting yourself sideways you dont even know what your saying. lol. quit while your ahead.

  3. @Dave – we dont really care 🙂 604,000 fans + Rest + 40 Years of Entertainment on Australian TV = too good! and i agree with Syd-Jazz totally!! aBlow smoke and choo choo off a Hey hey is da s**t 🙂

  4. Once again for the people who think it came 5th, It doesn’t matter as the shows that rated that night we All low including Hey Hey. Hey Hey is cr*p and lets have something new!! which I believe we will see in the coming weeks.. “Hey Hey we hate it”

  5. oh ffs you people sh*t me off. if you don’t watch it then it shouldn’t bother you if it comes back or not. use the remote there are other channels. so give over 600,000 people two hours a week and then you can get back to your dreary big bang, two and a half men. american b.s look at channel nine’s home of comedy line up. all american b.s plus one boring pom! channel nine the home of american canned laughter.
three channel nine’s and how many australian made shows….so does that mean australia is the new state of america? F*&^ off!
rock on daryl. don’t worry about the tall poppies and the wannabe critics.
if it was on gem or go! it might be just what the show needs. i’ll go now and leave you to watch i dream of jeannie and bewitched and the other rerepeated 60’s american craporama

  6. I agree with RJ, typical negativity from the people who dont care 🙂 – yes Hey hey Beat a lot of top shows and to come 5th or 6th highest in TV Tonights Ratings is a kick in the guts for the other shows cause there will never be another show like Hey Hey its saturday and not even Ben Elton’s show will match it just doesnt have the Finesse, the touch the spirit that Hey Hey has! ( I know the Truth Hurts for all you haters 🙂 Hey Hey is the poo so take a wiff !

  7. Yer mate, you clearly have no idea how television works and now your embarrassing yourself and the show.

Its ratings were not good enough and coming 5th doesn’t mean anything… Depends of what the other figures were on that Saturday.. (All the shows rated that Saturday were low)… o and did I mention, that Prime time is after 6 so it can not be compared to Today, Cricket or Hot Seat?

Its just going to repeat itself. Same cast, same jokes, same boring segments, same outcome.

We can all see how poor Hey Hey’s ratings are every week so imagine how low they would be if it was on daily.. like Today or Hot Seat

You need to move on and stop living in the past (Find another interest). Channel9 have won the past 3 Saturdays in a row so that’s gotta be saying something..

If you fans really wanted it back, you’s shoulda watched when the chance was there it to get the ratings up.

  8. RJ-

You are just embaressing yourself now- a bit like your hero Darryl.

I need to point out a Fact to you- The Today Show, and Hot Seat are Not primetime programming like you have misled others to beleive in your earlier post. A primetime program will typically air between 6pm and Midnight.

  9. @RJ. “give details of what is wrong. For my mind the show is exactly as it was 10 years ago”.

You’ve just answered it yourself. It is Exactly as it was 10 years ago. Same cast, same segments, same guests, same jokes. The jokes are 10 years old now. The segments are outdated. Daryl is cringeworthy these days. And they thought hey we could get away with blackface 10 years ago so let’s do it again. Sorry but times have changed, they didn’t adapt. IMO it’s completely ruined the great memories i had of the show because now i just think of how crap it is now and thats what i’ll remember

  10. Clearly, someone at Nine is taking sadistic pleasure in stringing Daryl along like this. If HHIS was going to come back, it would feature in the current “Home of Laughter” station promos that Nine is running at overkill level at the moment. HHIS is conspicuously absent from these promos, ergo, we can deduce that it ain’t coming back. To be completely frank, it should never have been revived in the first place. A massive waste of time, money and resources for very little return; 5th in the dead zone that is Saturday night television programming – people actually think that is an acceptable return on Nine’s investment? Come on!!

  11. Hey Hey had it’s last rating with 824,000 people….. the Today show on Tuesday got 348,000

Even Hot Seat only got 505,000.

If Channel 9 is thinking of axing Hey Hey when it has high national figures such as this, then I am expecting Today and Hot Seat and a bunch of other shows should also go as they are Prime Time shows too and way below Hey Hey’s ratings.

The issue with Hey Hey that Nine is looking at is poorer ratings in other states. But these are explained by Nine making bad moves such as showing Hey Hey after 10:00pm in Sydney instead of showing it live for several weeks and sound and visual problems in South Australia for Hey Hey 3 weeks in a row.

  12. MatthewBT have a look at the ratings section on this site if you don’t believe me….. Hey Hey was 5th or 6th highest rated show for Saturday as shown by tvtonight.

  13. @Peter
Obviously your a Hey Hey fan.. Funny that there’s 600 000 fans but only 200 seem to make an appearance in its support..
Anyway, a Goodbye special would be great! Its overdue and well past its expire date.
People who say “It has 600 000 fans on facebook” or “It came 5th on a saturday night” make me laugh as it it wouldn’t be in this situation if it had a large fan base..

  14. How about a one off “Goodbye…Again!” special?
Or perhaps they could return for a one-off every year at Christmas? You know, just long enough for people to think they miss the show, be reminded they don’t when they watch it, and then do it all again the following year.

  15. The negative comments above are just rubbish.
Relevance – if they did a flood appeal special that would be quite relevant and would top the ratings.
As for the effect 600,000+ die facebook hardcore fans could have on Nine’s ratings in the event of a boycott, I think it might be the diffierence between finishing first for the week or just ahead of Eleven.
One concession i will make is that the show needs more special guests and a little more variety but I am sure that as it evolves more and more people will come to like it again.

  16. For the people in here who are so critical of Daryl Somers and Hey Hey…. have you even watched the show? The show is great entertainment and showcases a lot of the local and overseas music talent. And for the people criticizing the show, instead of telling us that the show is rubbish and not like the series 10 years ago…….. give details of what is wrong. For my mind the show is exactly as it was 10 years ago…. if not better.

There are practically no shows produced in Australia that a family can sit down to on a saturday night and watch together. This is where Hey Hey shines because there is now a new generation of fans for Hey Hey and can sit down and watch it with their parents.

And if you also look at the ratings supplied here by tvtonight for 2010, you will see that for the 30 shows rated on Saturday morning to evening , Hey Hey came 5th and 6th most rated show for saturday…… beaten by the half hour news at 6:00 / 6:30 on channel 7 and 9. As Hey Hey was so highly rated as shown on this site, it means Hey Hey should be back in 2011.

If Hey Hey is axed, Channel 9 needs to axe such programs as Today and the Cricket as these have woeful ratings and are well below Hey Hey. Even Rugby that was shown instead of Hey Hey live for a few weeks rated poorly. Scrap Rugby. And the much raved on Ben Elton show…… that is not going to be a hit. Have a look at some of his humor as shown on tube and see if you get his humor. I didn’t. Elton will be axed faster than Warnie!
