Facebook hijack: Daryl, Livinia, Plucka nominated for Gold Logie

Exclusive: Angry Hey Hey fans have bombarded online Logie voting to ensure Daryl Somers, Livinia Nixon and Plucka Duck are all nominated for Gold.

Exclusive: The TV Week Logie Awards new online voting system has backfired after Hey Hey it’s Saturday fans hijacked the votes, in a bid to bring their favourite show back to air.

Daryl Somers, Livinia Nixon and Plucka Duck have all been nominated for the Gold Logie Award in a stunning turn of events.

Frantic Logie organisers are scrambling to complete a forensic investigation into their IT systems to see if any multiple IP addresses can be discounted ahead of the official announcement of nominees on Sunday afternoon.

But Hey Hey Facebook fans, which number over 600,000, have carefully orchestrated a three-pronged approach to guarantee Somers, Nixon and Plucka a place in the final 8 nominees.

The other five nominees expected to be revealed on Sunday are:
– Rebecca Gibney, Packed to the Rafters
– Jessica Marais, Packed to the Rafters
– Hugh Sheridan, Packed to the Rafters
– Zoe Ventoura, Packed to the Rafters
– Ben Elton, Live from Planet Earth

Hey Hey it’s Saturday is also considered to be unbeatable in the Best Light Entertainment category.

A Facebook campaign was instrumental in bringing Hey Hey back to screen but now fans angered by the show’s non-renewal have directed their fury at Channel Nine by trying to disrupt “television’s night of nights.”

This year’s Logie voting was conducted entirely online for the first time, but there are Red Faces amongst Nine management and ACP magazines after nobody foresaw the growing power of social networking.

One insider told TV Tonight, “Heads will roll for this one. They are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The whole thing is strictly audited but they are having to sort through every vote with a fine toothcomb and the clock is ticking.

“They should never have pissed off those fans. The irony is after the dismal “Home of Laughter” campaign Nine would bloody kill to have those Hey Hey numbers now.”

Logie nominations will be formally announced on Sunday.

  1. LMAO!!! Totally fooled me, as it was so believable!! I also read it very early in the morning before I realised what date it was today, but even then, I probably wouldn’t have twigged. Well done, fantastic gag report. It is not beyond the realm of imagination for crazed Hey Hey fans to manipulate the online voting system for the Logies, though. Congrats on a supremely believable article.

  2. Congratulations David, a first class gag! Really first rate. It’s actually all so believeable apart from the Ben Elton nomination which was the instant giveaway.
But you’d better watch out – you’ve evidently now made bitter enemies of the the 600,000 “Friends of Hey Hey Illuminati” nutters who will target TV Tonight in revenge.
(BTW I reckon there’s actually only about 12 of them, 10 if you discount Darrryl and Ozzie.)

  3. Excellent article David, perfectly balanced. I went looking for a likely candidate and this article seemed to be it. The third para confirmed it for me. I thought the Ben Elton bit was too much but it just generated more outrage! If it’s on the internet, it must be true!

I love how even at nearly midday people were still scrolling down past a whole bunch of “April Fools?” comment to post an indignant comment of their own.

  4. You do realise that somewhere out there 600,000 facebook Hey Hey fans are thinking there’s nothing at all wrong with a man in a duck suit being nominated for Australian TV’s highest accolade.

  5. Well done David, gee these Hey Hey fans are a sensitive lot aren’t they ? All jokes aside though, Daryl has won many Logies before, including the Gold. But his most recent work hasn’t been worthy of nomination or a win. Why doesn’t the bloke come up with something new.

  6. You had me going this morning David! Well done! When I saw Ben Elton on the list, I too thought “how is that possible? He was not on TV in 2010” and thought it was odd but the april fools didn’t click with me until hours later! I seriously hope Daryl and Hey Hey are successful. I’ll say it again. Hey Hey somehow has the effect of propping up other channel 9 shows!

  7. You can’t win David, with some readers. You have been very supportive and fair with Hey Hey since the reunion shows. My sense is you have a soft spot for the old team and the show. In all honesty, a great April Fools gag, and for the tv addicts and Logie tragics like myself, it was a hoot and a half! Your tireless energy and passion for this medium and all who sail in it is amazing. Cheers.

  8. Axed: Packed to The Rafters

Exclusive: Packed to The Rafters has been axed by the Seven Network after being pulled in favor of new Aussie Drama Winners and Losers. An insider at Seven said that the cast and crew wanted as much money per episode as Charlie Sheen got for Two and A Half Men. Seven said that if they paid that much money, Rafters would need well over 50 million watching each week to meet costs and that is impossible in a country of 22 million. Seven will return Packed to The Rafters later in 2011.

    Happy April Fools Day!

  9. I think you fooled so many cause it was so well written. With all the Facebook hype HHIS has had, it did seem very believable. And it wouldn’t surprsie me that all the PTTR actors were nominated…I really only cottoned on due to Ben Elton…

  10. Well I was fooled (nice one David!), but my point still stands in that I just wish ‘Hey Hey’ fans would go and have a nice lie down and stop flogging a dead horse. I’m sure they’re still out there rattling their cages about something.

  11. Just what expect from a biased site , well goodbye David I’m boycotting this site , I can’t wait to see your faces when daryl really gets a nominated and wins gold .

    1. Nice to see everyone in the spirit of the day, what a shame it is but once a year. I had a few ideas about what might make the best topic this year, but there’s nothing like a story that sounds just a little bit believable because you time it right (ie Logie noms). Long-term readers will know my style is always to lead you halfway down the road but by the time you get to the end you’re in on the gag (hence the Ben Elton line).

Shannon: I actually expect Daryl and Hey Hey to be in Logie noms, but I also think the show has the good sense to have a bit of fun today. If you think it was some sort of attack you should go back and read the articles where I have written positive editorial, including Daryl’s glaring absence from the Hall of Fame. Nine execs will have read this one today and I am hearing other media will be referencing it. That gives your campaign more oxygen not less.

  12. Well color me Barbra and Jeepers Creepers – i’m 94 in the shade, and still fell hook line and sinker for it, David. My only hope for revenge is that some of that actually comes true on Sunday! There will be aberrations in the list.
