Gold Logie 2011: It’s Karl!

Today show co-host Karl Stefanovic has won the 2011 Gold Logie award.

The Gold Logie for 2011 has gone to Today‘s Karl Stefanovic.

Stefanovic defeated Asher Keddie, Adam Hills, Chrissie Swan, Rebecca Gibney, and Jessica Marais.

His win capped off a big night including a Silver Logie as Best Presenter.

“I never expected it (recognition for his work), especially because it came out of all that gloom,” he said.

“There were so many disasters to cover in quick succession that people saw a lot of me, I think.

“It’s amazing. It’s still TV’s night of nights and a lot of people have gone out of their way to vote. My mum has been very busy!”

  1. Karl did host lot of tv in past year, similar to the way Ray Martin did in 1990s.And Ray did win gold.Karl has pushed Eddie everywhere aside and at the moment is channel nines golden boy.I must admit l watched Today this morning hoping for Karl to make a fool of himself, and to my shock he actually did a good job.

  2. Most awards shows are determined by advertising campaigns…take note of the “For Your Consideration” campaigns that are run for the Oscars…it’s nothing new…

  3. Reading all the Karl hate makes him winning all the more enjoyable. Nowhere is the tall poppy syndrome more alive and well than in Australia.

During the disaster stories you could see him on air at 11pm with news updates and then turn the tv on at 5am and there he was still presenting.

I say this is a gold for one of, if not the hardest working man seen on Australian tv screens. Well done Karl.

  4. It’s cool that a different person has won the gold for four years in a row. I lived through the endless Lisa MCune and Ray Martin and Rove years where it started becoming embarrasing that the same person was voted in year after year.

  5. @roaringdave. the most hated can still have fans, and clearly those few fans Karl has voted like hell, but if you’ve read the comments from news sites people are saying exactly the same thing as on here. They can’t stand Karl and think the Logies is a sham, and this just proves it.

Karl didn’t win a Gold Logie, Nine bought one.

  6. Every network ran campaigns. Nines campaign was fun and had personality, but more than that Karl is a hard working good bloke. Voters are split when you have 2 rafters stars. They cancel each other out. Plus they are not on air at the moment. I say a well deserved win! Go Karl!!

  7. i don’t get this karl hatred. Surely people mut have better things to do in their lives than spill the that of acid. He won the gold logie. BFD.

    Well done Karl.

  8. I always had a sneaky suspicion that Karl would win gold after he took out best presenter. But if your network had a campaign set up for you and told everyone to vote for you and throw in Keith Urban & Hugh Jackman telling the public to vote for Karl then you have to be on a winner.

I reckon Jess & Rebecca would have taken votes off each other both being on the same show & being really good actresses.

Im a Sunrise viewer so if Mel or Kochie won gold then I guess i’d be here defending them. But I liked his speech and liked the fact he a admitted loving PTTR and it was nice how he went through the other nominees and acknowledged them.

But he didnt thank Lisa or anyone else from today, just Richard Wilkins. I missed his best presenter speech so im assuming he would have thanked them then.

Next year thought there is just going to be a lot of campaigning going on to get anyone to win.

  9. this does show that with enough advertising dollars, you stand a chance to being the most popular personality on TV. Regardless of which network they are from, i found the whole voting process a complete joke. It shouldnt be labelled as the most popular personality on TV – it should be labelled the most voted personality based on advertising dollars… i dont think the process is fair and it further puts the Logies as from being a complete joke to something that isnt funny anymore..

  10. glad that Karl has won, love you Karl, you truly deserve!!
for those who hate Karl on this site, suck it up; never in your life you’ll win a Logie…

  11. its very dissapointing some of the comments on here…no matter who won…people are just getting on here to have a whinge…. everyone is entitiled to an opinion i suppose….but really the same people whinge about the same things all the time…. its very “whatever”, most people are saying “if this is the best…..” just keep your negative comments to yourself….and before anyone says, I wanted Adam Hills to win, but any of tem would have been good.

  12. I think there needs to be a betting probe into this debacle. Going from rank outsider to favourite, and then winning is a little bit sus.
A presenter on a breakfest show that gets beaten 350 days of the year Isn’t gold logie material.
    logies=Massive Fail.

  13. how does a show with 300 thousand viewers beat a show with 2 million viewers……money……it was a disgrace the whole promos for their stars…absolute shame ……get rid of the public vote and have only industry votes…..it was a boring night full of long dull speeches

  14. Does anybody really watch the Logies or care about who wins??? Do people actually waste their time voting??? It’s a total joke when some bloke called Karl Stefan-whatever wins gold…I mean…who is this so called celebrity?? Is he a “star” from Neighbores or Home + Away??? Don’t respond to this question….I honestly don’t really care…..yawn……..

  15. Given the many complaints on here maybe next year TV Week should change the logies and make it more like the SAG’s and the Oscars, letting the people who work in the industry nominate and vote for those who they think should win…

On second thoughts that still won’t work becasue you’ll get the typical cry babies yelling and screaming that who ever won shouldn’t have. No matter what the voting you won’t please everyone.

Whether he won because of nine’s marketing campaign or because he is more popular than the other nominees, Karl is the gold logie winner. So suck it up princesses.

  16. Karl won me over during the flood coverage. Living in Brisbane, his empathy and genuine concern was more comforting than the ambulance chasers on Seven, so good on him.

  17. Nice guy, but boring as watching paint dry. I don’t think he shouldn’t have won, but there were clearly others who should have won it ahead of him and who deserved it more. It’s one thing for viewers to suspect the voting is rigged, but there was no effort made to hide it with the shameless “Vote Karl” campaign. If he truly deserved to win, he would have done so on his own merits – the award is now tarnished, deserved or not.

  18. I was not a fan of Karl when he first joined Today; his behaviour and at times dim approach was unimpressive, but it seems redemption has its rewards. His stoic and sensitive approach and handling of the disaster stories this past six months has shown that beneath the cheeky pretty boy, is a sturdy journalist and masterful anchor. I think that has resonated with viewers. Frankly I can live with his win more than Ray Meagher or Rove or Kate Ritchie for that matter. The people love who they love. Lisa Wilkinson is another vital ingredient to his success. Along side any popular host is another popular host, and she is the epitome of grace, intelligence and style – as Karl paid tribute to her – she is a calming and supportive influence.

  19. I find the whole Gold Logie campaign thing that networks do in the lead-up to the Logies to be distasteful. They should not be allowed to do it.

  20. When did the logies become a respectable night of aussie tv industry awards ?
It was always a joke yet even abc was pimping itself with adam hills , I hope that Karl winning takes everyone back to the land of “the logies are a joke” where it should be.
Pathetic. Really pathetic. Talent plays no part in who wins.
    The logies are a joke.
