More Big Brother rumours

TEN makes noises that it might like to revive Big Brother, but wonders whether audiences have moved on.

In April this site asked whether it was time to relaunch Big Brother on a digital channel such as ELEVEN.

Now there are media reports saying it is under consideration by TEN. But it’s by no means a certainty just yet.

“We’ve looked at Big Brother. I think audiences have moved on to some degree,” David Mott has told News Limited.
“It’s a summer show for CBS, it doesn’t play in the heart of the ratings season but it’s done a pretty good job for them.

“All broadcasters have looked at it. It’s extremely expensive because the house no longer exists.

“(But) it’s not whether we’re financially able to do it, it’s whether tonally it’s right for audiences now.

“It only finished up three years ago and in some respects audiences have moved on.”

  1. @ Webby – completely agree! Like TEN cancelled So You Think You Can Dance Australia because their ratings died (their own fault for moving it to midweek timeslots) but continue to show the American version on ELEVEN because it gets ratings and is cheaper for them. Same goes with American Idol, with TEN not putting up the money or effort to produce the Australian version yet FOX8 still show American Idol every year with the finale live. No reason why the U.K. and U.S. versions can’t be shown except for money.

  2. The show had many flaws, the least of which was the public voting out all the controversial characters who contributed to the drama. Always the house was left with the bland players. BB should never return.

  3. What about showing the UK version on ELEVEN and see how it goes first if they are unsure, I’m sure people who are interested in BB coming back would watch the UK version just for a bit of BB entertaiment.
    After all it is just the same thing with different accents

  4. Id love it back….heres my 2c worth. No Kyle and Jackie, No Mike Goldman, give it a fresh start. Also move away from the constant begging of the audience to pay for voting. Make it online voting for free, then many more will then get involved. And be transparent, have voting results updated throughout the week leading to eviction. As for that moronic Games Show on Fridays…scrap it, make it a little more upmarket.

    and change the rules somehow; nobody is going to want to watch something that is exactly the same.

  7. I’d like Big Brother if they actually had some interesting people. In my own life, I know so many interesting people that would really be entertaining to watch on TV, rather than the banal airhead people that end up on the show. But then again, it’s those sort of people who apply. If they change the culture of the show, they might get some interesting people on rather than sleazy Gold Coast types. But if they did bring it back, I think it would probably end up suffering the same fate as Hey Hey.

  8. Yes bring it back Ten! Bring back all of it’s shows on TEN and ELEVEN and that will be the Best. And for the Hosts that’s simple get Gretel Killeen, Mike Goldman, Chrissie Swan and Bree Amer and if one of them can’t or doesn’t want to do it then you can get Ryan Fitzgerald, Kyle and Jackie O as back-ups!!!! Done deal!!!

    So come on Channel 10 do it Already!!!!!!!!! Hurry up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. It couldn’t go to TEN, they really have moved on since BB and their schedule is clogged now with MC and BL, plus they now have all these other shoes to go to air. But 11 would be perfect!
    Schedule could go at 5 show a new show that say is like ET it gives you the latest gossip coming out of Hollywood and Australia, new movies and music for an hour or so. Then at 5.30 or 6 show a half an hour wrap up of BB then neighbours then at 7 Simpsons (or game show) to lead into at 7.30 scheduling of new shows till 10.30 where we have new eps of Craig Ferguson, then an hour or more of BB at 11.30. Follow this with their repeats of Cheers and Raymond and Roseanne till 7. With Toasted TV starting at 7 on 11 (put a morning TV show of some type on TEN) then at 9 replay last night’s ep of ET like program and then a repeat of Craig and Lettermen for people who can’t stay up that late. Then show a daily show of what’s happening in the house. Then for the afternoon, keep the boys from Couch Time and do Video Hits sort of thing until 5!!
    That gives 11 basically new and fresh programming all day, no re-runs till late at night (if you want to watch Tivo it) and all aimed at the youth.
    Wouldn’t mind seeing Eleven get its own gameshow and maybe daytime talk show, with a more youth focus.

    With FNL yea that should probably go to TEN and so should probably the eviction shows… after MC maybe? then followed by H-50 (so we don’t have to watch more NCIS repeats, as much as I love the show) or maybe move it to another night to fill in for shows like Lie To Me which have been axed.

    I’d like to see Mike Goldman again… but we really need a new host, maybe to get public involved let them choose it??
    And in this day and age Twitter and Facebook is its greatest friend, maybe even BB was before its time cause now with social networking its in its prime, have tweets scrolling on screen as the show goes? but its an oppourtunity not to be missed and imagine the buzz it would create from shows like TT and ACA

  13. I’m sure Dreamworld wouldn’t mind having it back. It’s money for what they are currently using for storage and an attraction in the off season. The amphitheatre would also be getting used again.

    The house is pretty run down, but wouldn’t take much to get it back to its former glory, much like between previous seasons.

    Ratings wise I think it would rate much better than anything TEN have on at this time of the year at 9:30 (no need for Uncut), plus they could get great late night figures if they went straight into Uplate. Evictions 8:30 Sunday, FNL 7:30 Friday (or 8:30 if The Renovators or something else is on at 7:30). Even if they break even first year, its a step up ratings wise to what currently fills all them slots.

  14. Big brother australia was an awesome show from the compound in dreamworld to the housemates…if big brother comes back but only more entertaining more and more people willl watch it again. all it needs is for it to go back to it’s basics.

  15. The house isn’t the main cost.
    It was re-built every year.
    Its all the infra-structure for cameras etc… that is the real cost.
    The “house” is/was just a big shed.
    Camera runs remained and rest was redesigned each year.
    All the technical aspects would have to be renewed at that is where the major costs are.
    All the offices and small studios were purpose built near the main stage on the original show.
    That all remained in place between shows which helped to keep costs down.
    The re-build each year would normally commence in Jan for an Easter start.
    There were also elements of the eviction that remained in place over the years at the stage.

  16. Given the hundreds of hours of content the show creates it is probably worth the investment. The show would have to be on Ten, it will either fail on Eleven or it will eat directly into Ten’s audience. I’d like to see 9:30pm daily shows, 8:30pm evictions and 7:30pm friday games. Eleven can get bonus content. Live streaming on our smartphones. The world has changed so much in three years. Big Brother 2012!

  20. The show totally sucks and shouldn’t ever return, but the CBS version is only on 3 times a week and it also has an uncensored version with sex and swearing, on their Showtime premium cable channel.

  21. I think most people these day really Want big brother back! everyone watched Friday Night live because it was so funny. Bring back Mike, Bree and Fittzy if Friday night live ever returns aswell as big brother.
    I think it will be a good change if it was to go on to channel 11. Hopefully they won’t ever cancel the show after 3 weeks like on Go!
    It Was my favourite show and who cares how much it will cost to make the house. I remember one year they had a glass pannel and inside it had all plastic bags also there were rain water tanks. As long as you use recycled material it will cut the cost.
    I don’t know why some people hate the show. It is so funny!
    Please, please, please bring back big brother! I think i cried when it finished! It needs to be back. All the reality shows are so boring Big Brother is the best!!!

  23. Bring it back, with an addictive host (like Gretel was! or offer Gretel a mass amount of money) and pick interesting housemates (not S8 type) and build a neat house.. and put it back on TEN. Hooray!

  24. Yep…bring it back….and the house is not a wreck…it is neglected…..but the bones of it are fine….and it would be cheaper to tidy up ‘the house’ rather than start from scratch….everything is there……
    I have seen private homes wrecked by tennants…in worse shape than this…and brought back to their former glory…..
    Yes…Gretel and Mike….I do not think Chrissy would take it on…(may be wrong)
    Definately No Kyle and Jackie O……..
    And real people….like Chrissy and Sarah Marie etc….and no deprivation and starvation….I want to be entertained not made to squirm….

  25. I would love to see this awesome show back But Gretel would have to host again…she was the show!!!! I do love Kyle and Jackie O but theres only so much of them I can take.
