Neighbours meets 24

Ramsay Street sets a whole episode in real-time. Tick, tick, tick...

I haven’t seen tonight’s episode of Neighbours, so I am grateful to The Sydney Morning Herald for alerting me to a device in the episode which sounds rather intriguing:

The clock is omnipresent in tonight’s ”real-time” Neighbours episode. The gimmick of the formatting – the episode unfolds in real time over an action-packed 30 minutes on Ramsay Street – means the clock appears almost every minute to remind us of what is a pressing deadline. It’s a clever device for fans who have perhaps fallen out of touch with the folks at Erinsborough. In fact it’s almost impossible not be at least mildly interested about the future prospects of Scott McGregor and Ashleigh Brewer in the aftermath of this 24-style ep
.

It’s not the first show to run an episode in real time. In fact years before 24, MASH had an episode in which a clock was present in the background of an operating theatre throughout the show.

But it could be one to catch at 6:30pm tonight on ELEVEN.

  1. It really wasn’t the best. Kudos to them for trying something different – you’ve got to give them a nod for it, but overall it was poorly executed, the plot was dull and the pacing was off – the jump to 7.10pm in the final scene ruined what they’d tried to establish over the 30 minutes. It should’ve just ended with Kate’s reaction to receiving the ‘I love you’ text while standing in the rain in the carpark.

  2. Yeah, I was watching the time and it did seem they got to certain places a little more faster than they should so wasn’t exactly like 24 in that case. That and when they did show the clock it was a bit ahead of where it should actually be.

@ Jake – sorry, didn’t meant so single you out as I thought deedeedragons had given it up but seems they are still posting badly on Neighbours whenever they can too. It does surprise me though. Using ‘Neighbores’ yet actually coming to a piece on a show, reading it all and then commenting it it shows that there is some sort of interest there.

  3. @Jake – I disagree. You are the one embarrassing yourself. John Jackson clearly likes Neighbours. Each to their own. You do not like Neighbours. Each to their own. Why continually comment on articles relating to a TV show you do not like? And then why bait people who Do like the show, and feel the need to defend it from pathetic souls like yourself? I think we all know who the 8-year-old here is….

  4. @John Jackson – Quite embarrassing for yourself that you should defend a program such as Neigh-bores….but then it’s understandable as you are probably 8 years of age….enough said….

  5. i don’t give a damn about it being in real-time, the biggest thing were missing here is the fact everybody’s favourite hot cop is leaving tonight!!
Ramsay St just got a heap less attractive 🙁

  6. See where they have gone wrong with this is by thinking we actually care about Kate. Her and Brennan are the most unbelievable couple in a long time.

He would do well to leave the country and never look back!

Having said that – I am going to miss him on Neighbours, maybe he and Kate canb swap at the last minute and she will entter the witness protection and we can keep Brennan, yay!

  7. Wow.. I wonder how that is going to work? Probably wont be much time to show other characters storylines, and only revolve around 1 or 2.

@Jake – might as well not comment anymore when it comes to Neighbours. Whenever you get a chance you speak of Neighbours, but all it is is the same thing but with different wording! 🙂 (worst show ever, should be dead, etc). Although I do wonder how people like you can exist who say things like a show should be axed, worst show ever. How can you say that when you don’t even see what is going on it? Has something in the storyline done something to personally offend you? Oh well..

  8. Should be interesting. I remember Home and Away doing one of these episodes around 10 years ago. The entire episode only included 4 or 5 characters (possibly Sally / Leah / Gypsy / Harry / Shauna / Vinnie, etc.)
