Move over Spartacus?
This Sunday night SBS ONE begins a lavishly produced two-part docudrama, The Destiny of Rome, that looks at the passions and politics, brave warriors, ambitious rulers, and legendary queen of the Roman Empire.
This French production features groundbreaking production techniques, live actors and virtual sets to create a reconstruction of key events.
At the Battle of Philippi, Marc Antony and Octavian fight back their joint enemies to lay claim to Caesar’s throne. Eleven years later, the two square off in the naval Battle of Actium to decide once and for all the destiny of Rome.
The bitter personal rivalry between the two men climaxes when Marc Antony abandons his attacking forces to pursue the fleeing Cleopatra. This single act sounded the death knell of the Roman Republic and gave birth to an empire.
Sunday, 16 October at 7.30pm on SBS ONE

Where would I buy a copy of this??
Tony H. – it’s Latin!
Nine would be proud of that promo. 😉
Cool. I love stuff like this.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be watching!
looks pretty good. Definitely will rival Spartacus. Its quite dark in colour which is interesting didn’t know Rome would have been that dark, where is the day light. Still looks very good and i will attempt to watch it. If i cant in real time then there is always SBS on Demand.
I didn’t realise the Romans could speak French so well!
Are those dated right David?
Thanks David. I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch it because it depends what the ABC airs. If there’s a clash I hope it’s repeated. So I take it from this press release that the French spell his name Marc Antony. Because he’s Marcus Antonius in Italian/Latin and Mark Antony in English. But interesting nonetheless.
