Weekend Sunrise gets serious

Adam Boland ditches the All Stars segment and Hollywood showbiz in a bid to make Weekend Sunrise more serious.

Yesterday saw the final segment of the long-running “All Stars” segment on Weekend Sunrise.

As previously noted, Adam Boland returns to producing Breakfast Television on Seven by producing Weekend Sunrise from today.

Yesterday he told TV Tonight, “I have thanked Prue MacSween and Tim Ross for their significant contribution to the show. Prue, in particular, has been on the show for many years.”

Taking a more serious tone to the show he also signalled the end of a regular showbiz segment by US contributor Tomm Taylor.

“As of next weekend, there won’t be regular Hollywood reports. If it warrants news, we’ll do it then – not by default.

“An entirely new format for Weekend Sunrise will debut next Saturday morning at 7am.”

  1. Its good to see Adam Boland back in the chair. He is the person who makes Sunrise what it is or should i say was. Mind you i prefer Weekend Sunrise over Sunrise lately but still prefer both over the Today show with Karly.

I recon its only a matter of time before Boland ends back at Sunrise again.

  2. I cant wait to see what it looks like this upcoming sunday. I hope they dont go too serious, remember it is sunday morning afterall. Commercial networks tend to overdo this thing.

  3. What’s everyone got against AOK? I’m sure he’s capable of being both great and serious if given the chance in the right format (which he has not had previously – his past and current shows being a sketch comedy, a game show and a frothy weekend magazine show).

  4. That’s a stupid idea sunrise, but what are you guys talking about Andrew O’ Keefe is cool and funny his the one who makes the show good, the lady on the show is the one who’s a moron she’s not even funny or serious!!!

  5. @ Michael but don’t the words Cheese and Andrew O’keefe go together well… Not a bad ad opportunity actually… Team him up with a Cracker or snack company – “You think I’m full of cheese? Well wait till you taste new Jatz Cheddars”…

  6. I watch Today during the week because Karl and Ben Fordham is a bit like watching Beavis and Butthead. And I watch Weekend Sunrise, because AOK is just as bad.

If I wanted serious, I’d choose the ABC – but life needs it’s fun, and I’d prefer to laugh at the start of the day. It normally puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

  7. If they want to be serious that’s fine – but they need a new male host. Andrew O’Keefe is many things, but serious is not one of them – he’d be a bad fit for a serious show!!

  8. Weekend breakfast TV is all about fluff and nonesense…I don’t want or need “serious” stuff, if I did it would be ABC news 24. I want Sam & Andrew just messing around and not taking life too seriously. This sounds like change purely for the sake of it….

  9. If they want to be serious about News, they would show it live on 7two or mate around the country. Much like ABC do for their breakfast show. It’s not like the other channels are really showing anything decent at that time.

  10. Thank gawd Prue and Tommy two straws are gone, they were the worst aspects of the show. I see Media Spy has details on all the new segments. Looks promising.

  11. If Adam wants to earn his dollars, he will do the job he needs to do and rid the show of the horrendous Andrew O’Keefe. AOK’s out-sized ego dwarfs everything around him – news, topics, guests and fellow presenters. WS is all about one thing – AOK. It is all Samantha can do to stop herself from cringing with about 90% of what comes out of his mouth.Time to go…

  12. Love Weekend Sunrise and the All Stars was our favourite segment.

Very sad to see this go – and Tomm Taylor.

We love the lighthearted show and Sam and Andrew – we don’t want to watch serious tv on a Sunday morning – We like a laugh over breakfast!

  13. I personally don’t have anything against Andrew O’Keefe, but if they’re saying they’re going to be “serious”, then surely they have to get rid of O’Keefe.
Don’t watch Sunrise anymore, i watch ABCNews Breakfast, but i still watch Weekend Sunrise. Better lineup all round.

  14. Pleased to hear they’re getting a makeover and getting more serious. While I’m not too fussed on Hollywood gossip I did enjoy the fun they had with Tommy “Two-Straws”. I look forward to seeing the changes next weekend. Hope Andrew is still allowed to let his personality and humour shine through.
