Hamish Blake wins Gold Logie 2012

Hamish Blake has won the Gold Logie for 2012 -but not without controversy with the result leaked by the Herald Sun before it was broadcast.

Hamish Blake has won the Gold Logie for 2012.

Blake defeated Karl Stefanovic, Carrie Bickmore, Asher Keddie, Esther Anderson and Adam Hills.

Blake said it was “donkey voting” that got him over the line.

“It is lovely. It was a fluke to be nominated and … a far bigger fluke to actually hold that Logie,” he said.

But the win was not without controversy with the Herald Sun publishing the news before it had been televised on Nine.

In an article published online just after 10pm before being pulled from the website, but it wasn’t enough to stop it spreading like wildfire through Twitter.

The publication contravenes terms agreed to by attending media. There were reports that Herald Sun journalists were evicted from the Media Room.

Even Logie organisers sent out the Gold winner at 11:59pm, ahead of its broadcast at 12:12am.

The Herald Sun said, “The error occurred during live testing of the Herald Sun’s new iPad application which is due for release in coming weeks.

“Live testing has been taking place for about a week.

“At no time did the Herald Sun publish the name of the winner on its website, iPad app or in Twitter.

“However, during the live testing, a link to an embargoed story naming the winner was momentarily created and published by Google.

“The link was discovered almost as soon as it had been created and immediately killed.

“The only media outlet to knowingly publish the winner’s name prior to it being announced was ninemsn.com.au – the website of the host broadcaster.”

It wasn’t the first time a leak had occurred, with winners previously discussed on Twitter ahead of the delayed broadcast.

But the leak won’t dampen the celebrations for Hamish Blake, who begins filming Hamish and Andy’s Euro Gap Year soon.

“It’s incredibly humbling to be here,” he said.

“As my first act, as your president, my man slaves One Direction thankyou.”

  1. Also, I think a lot of people forget that Hamish didn’t only do Gap Year last year.
He guest stars on several other shows, including Spicks & Specks and TAYG, so his viewership is much wider than Gap Year.

  2. The Logies run for way too long. I don’t understand why you would start them after 8:30 on TV (after the red carpet stuff).
Would like to see the red carpet straight after the news at 6:30, then the ceremony starts broadcast on TV at 7pm, Live.
That way, it’s all over by about 10:30.
Finishing after midnight is just too late.

  3. Fine if you don’t like Hamish or not, but seriously, he is truly one of the most popular people in Australian entertainment. He always comes out on top on those “most like people on tv” survey things. He has a massive following fanbase. Just saying it makes sense for him to win as most popular personality, whether 9 bought most of the votes or not.

  4. The biggest rought in TV history. The Logies should be run by an independent group because its become a complete and utter farce of an awards show. All we heard all night was the bagging of the awards plus endless plugs for Channel 9. After tonight i felt what a waste of time that was.

Its time for an awards overhaul. They should be shown on alternate networks each year and not be run by the morons at Nine and TV Week anymore. Sorry Hamish but your award was bought by Channel 9 and after tonight i won’t be watching Nine in the near future.

  5. Totally rigged by 9 or it was his radio audience voting and had nothing to do with his TV appearances which were a blip on the radar of the TV year compared to other nominees.

  6. Too bad Herald Sun spoilt it 90 mins earlier and went way past midnight so that most people wouldn’t have seen Hamish win. Something very suss about the way people vote for gold. It can be rigged, They should go back to giving it to whoever won it in the intial voting.

  7. What an extremely disappointing telecast. And what exactly is the reason for delaying it and letting those leaks happen anyway? The broadcast still went for 4 and a half hours. That is way too long.

I think a much tighter schedule, live broadcast, and perhaps letting the other channels have a go could be beneficial to the ceremony. I felt sick having to see that many references to Channel Nine every 3 seconds.

I’m not really sure getting One Direction was really the best idea they had. Sure, a million more girls might have watched, but all the adults they had to perform for didn’t seem all that impressed.

The highlight was Adam Hills opening the show, and making it entertaining. Which just makes me wonder, why on earth was he not hosting? If the Logies insist on running for 4 hours, then they need someone popping up to keep it interesting.

  8. How can you say it’s rigged.

They have over 2 mill listeners for their weekly raido show plus a hilarious video on the website that shows hamish voting for Karl 100,000 times thinking the voting for the logies is like big brother (voting to get someone voted out). So I say well done hamish or Mr NY state bodybuilder heavyweight champion .

  9. Very disappointing result. Adam Hills is far more funnier than Hamish! I really hate channel 9. The Block winning the reality category is absurd. I’m surprised Hamish didn’t win Most Popular TV Presenter. Spicks and Specks only won Most Outstanding Light Entertainment Program because Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year wasn’t nominated.

  10. What a joke! Why should Hamish be nominated over Andy? The others were far more deserving especially Adam and Karl.
I don’t think Roy or HG have ever won a Logie and they have been around far longer than Hamish and Andy.

I can’t understand how Hamish and Andy’s Gap (Crap) Year program could win Most Popular Light Entertainment Program over Spicks & Specks.

This now just makes me hate him even more!

  11. Nice guy, but the winner of the Gold Logie? The Most Popular Personality on Australian TV?

This is a big win for the Nine Marketing department, but this marks more serious damage to the Logies. Karl last year was the beginning of the smell, but with Hamish, the stink is becoming strong that something is terribly, terribly wrong with this system. It’s now beyond broken.

  12. These awards have no credibility whatsoever after this win this year and Karl last year. I mean seriously. It’s not sour grapes – it’s got to be on the minds of everyone in the industry. Some of the wins tonight were just puzzling, absolutely puzzling. And can David find out who decides who wins the Most OUtstanding awards? I know they’re peer voted but who is on the panel? Why is that never disclosed?
