ABC1 to screen live Queen’s Diamond Jubilee events

ABC will screen live coverage of Queen's Diamond Jubliee following criticism it was not offering enough.

ABC will screen Live coverage of Queen’s Diamond Jubliee River Pageant on Sunday night in the Eastern States on ABC1, with Live coverage also available on ABC News 24 across Australia.

This follows wide criticism that the broadcaster was not giving the event adequate coverage.

Most media articles neglected to acknowledge ABC was always going to have coverage via ABC News 24, but viewers without multichannels had put pressure on the broadcaster to add coverage on ABC1. ABC1’s previously scheduled 1975 movie Shampoo is now out.

ABC has this afternoon confirmed broadcast details with the BBC.

On Tuesday night there will be Live coverage of arrivals at St Paul’s Cathedral on ABC1 from 6-7pm in Eastern states, and delayed in other states. From 10:30pm the coverage will include the carriage procession, gun salute, the palace balcony appearance etc. Live in Eastern States, delayed in other states.

ABC News 24 will offer Live coverage from 7pm including the Thanksgiving Service, through to 12:45am.

ABC will also screen highlight events on Monday and Wednesday (see below) as well as repeating The Diamond Queen.

Rights to the Jubilee concert are not available to the ABC.

  1. I think the boat pageant could be something rather special – the biggest for 350 years. The rest though I can pretty much take it or leave it.

  2. @Freddo, what can’t we celebrate this remarkable woman, she has outlived (in terms of life in office) Presidents, Prime Minister, and Dictators. If you don’t like it, put a DVD on and wait until after the Jubilee to have a whinge.

  3. @Freddo – Last time I checked her majesty was the Queen of Australia, and head of the commonwealth, two very important roles which make the Diamond Jubilee relevant to us. Simple answer, as for most complaints about television programming is switch off or watch another channel.

Thank you to the ABC for scheduling these important events, and thank you David for alerting us.

  4. Why are we subjected to this monarchist rubbish in Australia? We are now a mature independent country and yet this retrograde rubbish pervades our screens. Is this some sort of conditioning for when the “unhinged one” becomes prime minister (a well
    known rampant monarchist).

  5. That is a better coverage. I think the ABC is not able to get the rights to the Jubilee concert because there is not enough time between now and next week to clear the local rights to the songs and music to be performed at the concert, however the concert may be released on DVD down the track.

  6. ‘delayed in other states’.
Exactly why ABC24 was a perfect fit. I don’t think there is much longer before the ‘digital channel’ excuse cant we used, and thankfully so.
People have been complaining that they should be able to see it, but how many will see the footage past 10pm.
