Myf Warhurt’s Nice: June 20

Peter Russell-Clarke, Matt Preston and Elizabeth Chong share the food and the love with Myf.

Familiar telly faces pop up on tomorrow night’s episode of Myf Warhurt’s Nice in an episode about food we grew up with.

Look out for veteran TV chef Peter Russell-Clarke (no swearing, please!), Gruen‘s Russell Howcroft, Matt Preston eating some less-than-healthy grub, and Elizabeth Chong (Good Morning Australia), whose father created what we now recognise as the modern Australian ‘dimmy.’ Who knew?

And just wait for the Chiko Roll moment.

Growing up in a small country town, Myf thought dinner at the local Chinese restaurant was the most exotic culinary experience possible. With hindsight she realises a lot of our earlier food experiences weren’t exactly authentic – but
they were… ‘nice’.

In Nice and Tasty, Myf explores Australia’s recent food past. Are we are ashamed of our national foods and if so why? Is there more to the food in the bain‐marie of our local takeaway than we think?

Along the way Myf chats to culinary icons including everyone from Peter Russell‐Clarke to Matt Preston, she learns how to cook a dimmy with chef Elizabeth Chong – whose father is credited with introducing Australia to the mass produced Dim Sim, and attempts to track down the elusive chiko roll chick from posters of her childhood.

Also features interviews with advertising guru Russel Howcroft, and Shannon Bennet ‐ one of Australia’s most acclaimed chefs.

8pm Wednesday on ABC1.
