Airdate: Family Feud

TEN's new game show with Grant Denyer begins in mid-July in an attempt to bolster early evening numbers.

2014-06-25_1725TEN’s new game show, Family Feud hosted by Grant Denyer, will begin in mid July as part of the network’s plans to bolster its 6pm timeslot.

The series last appeared on Australian screens hosted by Bert Newton on Nine in 2007, preceded by various versions on Seven and Nine hosted by Rob Brough, Daryl Somers, Tony Barber, Sandy Scott and John Deeks.

Family Feud is a fantastic show that the entire family can truly sit down all together and enjoy,” said Denyer.

“I think viewers will love how fun, fast and funny this new series is. Hilarious and unexpected answers are the brilliance of this show; you can never anticipate what falls out of someone’s mouth under pressure and neither can they. It’s really fun to watch, it’s incredibly enjoyable to play along with at home and I think that it’s a perfect family alternative for 6pm.”

TEN Chief Programming Officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: “Grant is a great presenter and Family Feud is a much-loved and well-tested format. Together they make a great combination and will give Australians a fun, exciting and entertaining show.”

TEN will also offer “too-cheeky-for-TV” clips on www.tenplay.com.au and You Tube, plus a play-along game on Beamly.

6pm Monday, July 14 on TEN.

  1. I am loving how people have said this version of family fued with grant will be a huge flop.

they haven’t seen any episodes to give an actual opinion. it just makes me laugh.

it makes me laugh almost as much as the comments i read where people were saying this year’s MasterChef would be a flop too.

Where are those people now? They’re having their words sauted, fried, grilled, suveed, baked, flambayed, poached, roasted, mixed, kneeded, smoked and boiled by the MasterChef contestants.

  2. I loved FF when they did it with Bert a few years back but I think that was because Bert was hosting. He is an absolute master in a role like that and completely controls the show. Denyer looks like a work experience kid desperately trying to get noticed in comparison.

I’m surprised they didn’t get a comedian with some hosting experience to front this rather than Denyer. Someone like Charlie Pickering, Lehmo etc. Someone who will just have fun with it but has the experience to keep the energy up. It’s a very silly show which is why Bert was so good at hosting it – he doesnt take anything very seriously! Even Andrew O’Keefe would be better. I cant think of any game shows that have female hosts but someone like Cal Wilson or Kitty Flanaghan would have a lot of fun with this.

This rather old format appeals to older viewers who are rusted onto 7 or 9 news. I do believe there’s…

  3. It baffles me why Ten would want Grant Denyer of their own free will. Next they’ll be poaching Richard Wilkins.

I do like how they’re trying to modernise the show with technology, though.

  4. And if anyone realizes the date Family Fued will start on its on the 14th of July, a special date in game show history on this day 34 years ago Australia’s favourite game show will of aired for the very first time, Sale of the Century, dosent time fly by.

  5. OMG if i read one more comment about someone saying ‘what doesn’t 10 put Neighbours back on their main channel’ I will scream!!

David has told us time and time again why 10 cannot put Neighbours back on the main channel. It was part of the deal with CBS to lend 10 content so they could start channel 11. They said ‘put neighbours on 11 (a show most australian will watch) and we’ll give you shows and content to show on your channel’.

As long as 10 has a deal with CBS for 11, then Neighbours will never be back on the main channel 10.

As for Family Fued I will watch it as it looks like fun and an alternative to the news. Yes it is an old format, nothing new here but it will help lift the channel and hopefully keep viewers into The Project.

  6. I hope it works…..but can’t see it working.

    – The audience who like this dated format of a game show will be watching news on 7 or 9….after watching Hot seat or Minute to Win it. Is there no new formats of game shows anywhere in the world Ten could have used.

    – Grant has no success in any game shows he has hosted….so can see why this would be any different.

    – Grant in the promo is so 1980’s. Grant I hope in the episodes your are not so still…. more animated. Every sentence is not a voice over. I think you have been watching too may Daryl Somers episodes. Live it up show some energy…but don’t be a tool.

  7. The set looks like an exact copy of the US fox series. i. Like family feud so i hope it does well. I can’t help thinking that the majority of families would be watching the news at 6pm and this would be better suited to 4pm

  8. I think this show could last but if history has taught us anything, by putting a game show on against the news programs on 7 & 9 it could spell disaster. If you recall a game show 10 tried back in 1993, it was a game show hosted by Tony Barber and it was Jeopardy. I found that format exciting and interesting to watch but Ten put it on at the 6pm time slot and the show barley lasted 6 months. So Ten should mabye reconsider by moving it to 6.30pm or the 5:30pm timeslot and it may survie.

  9. Beverley McGarvey is not the right person for Ten if she thinks Grant Denyer is a “great host”. They could have done alright, but the moment they announced Grant it had flop written all over it. People just do not like him. Was evident when he was announced to host Minute To Win It and the reaction was just as bed when he was announced for this. Ratings have improved with Simon Reeve hosting Minute. Bad call Ten….Again

  10. Whilst this show doesn’t hold any interest for me, personally, I’m going to wish Denyer and the FF team all the luck in the world. They’ve definitely got their work cut out for them. You never know – it might actually be alright!

  11. I’m guessing Family Feud will just cause further pain for the so called family at ten. They got it all wrong when they announced Grant Denyer as host.

  12. @Secret Squirrel:

I think it’s Beverley McGarvey who really should stop the marketing people from putting her name against these trite little affirmations of how wonderful Ten’s new shows are.

She’s sung the praises of so many failures that it’s all starting to sound rather disingenuous…

  13. I did always like Family Fued however there was a reason why the networks got rid of the show and now with Grant hosting it, hmmm think I’ll pass.

  14. Wouldn’t 10 be netter off taking the money from “Family Feud” and using it to “beef up” “Neighbours” and put that on the main channel at 6pm ?

  15. I expect that this will rapidly become event television.

Actually, good on Ten for trying something as an alternative to the news on 7 & 9 but they’ve got to get someone else to write their promo guff. None of what Denyer supposedly said rings true at all and it has the slight smell of desperation and disease about it.

  16. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind watching this. But I am busy at 6pm and its not something I would bother to record. I just see it as something to watch to kill time.
