7flix to launch Feb 28

Movies, TV shows and Kids content coming to Seven's newest channel.

7flix

Seven will launch its newest channel 7flix on February 28th on Channel 76.

As tipped, the channel will be high on movie content, but will also feature TV shows and Kids content.

Based on the Seven promo TV shows appear to include The Amazing Race, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, Grey’s Anatomy, The Mindy Project, Once Upon a Time, The Muppets and Seinfeld.

Seven is understood to have explored a Lifestyle channel but has opted for a general Entertainment channel.

It follows Nine recently adding 9Life and SBS adding Food Network.

OzTAM requires one month’s notice to include in the survey panel, so based on industry chatter it should meet that by Feb 28th.

      1. A few people have been playing sillybuggers with the Aus network’s pages – and the 7 / 7HD pages in particular – for the last few months by updating them with just about every rumour as ‘fact’. Which makes them less reliable than a Sydney cab…

  1. This is probably going to be asked, as per normal, whenever a new fta digital channel starts up, but is this new digital channel going to be on foxtel? Particularly for Cable Viewers who already get the other channel digital offerings like sbs2, abc2/3, go,gem etc

  2. OMG yes yes yes! Finally a chance to see more of Once Upon a Time, Ch 7 main channel stopped as Elsa entered Storybrook and I haven’t known what’s happened since (and I won’t pay for SVOD!!!)

  3. just saw the ad they’ve shown. looks like more of a girls themed channel, the promo has pink all over it and the movie clips they show are female aimed. as well as a few of the shows. they should have named it 7chix 😉

what I’m curious about is the daily lineups. if it were me I would air tv shows up until 8:30pm and from 8:30 just marathon movies. perhaps Sunday’s they could air 1 hour tv shows from 8:30pm. what do you guys think the schedule will be like?

    1. Some people wouldn’t be happy unless the logo looked like it was made of cast iron, painted black, with phat tyres underneath and a pair of hairy testicles dangling from a gun rack…

It’s a second-string channel of a commercial FTA broadcaster in Australia – it’s gonna be shite. At best it’ll start off with a vague theme/style, but that’ll disappear as soon as they start to fear that it’s not performing as well as another second-string channel on a different commercial FTA broadcaster in Australia. Then it’ll become just another dumping ground for letover repeats, stuff that didn’t rate on the main channel, second-run advertorials, and ultra-niche content that not even the niche-nerds were interested in.

(I think many people invested way to much in caring about what 7 would come up with…)

  4. finally some news, the suspense was killing me!

I’m fine with it being a movie/tv show channel but they shouldn’t include newer shows, leave them for 7two. if this is mostly a movie channel, then hopefully they won’t put them on 7two or 7mate, opening up more timeslots on those 2 channels for more content. the thing is, these programmers can’t come up with good timeslots, I bet the schedule is jumbled and all over the place.

for the shows they’ve listed, hopefully this means earlier timeslots for them instead of being shafted to midnight slots and such. like the less popular shows given a second chance in earlier slots. and with the new FTA ratings they can air M/MA content earlier!

  5. As others have said it just sounds like a mish-mash of what Seven already had, they could have tightened all there channels up by making this something else, like a Family Channel. For instance they have Saturday Disney on from 6am-7am on 7, then have it 7am- 9am on 7Two, could have that 6am-9am on 7Flix (call it 7Family though). Pick-Up some more Disney shows, have a look at what The Family Channel US and Family TV Canada do as well and get some rights from them, there is so much that could be shown between Movies, TV Seriess and Animation.

    1. It is exactly a mish-mash of what Seven gets through its existing TV and movie library deals, to wring what it can out of them since most of the content in them no longer rates well on the main channel. They are not going to buy any new content.

The Australian says they will be doing Box Sets style Marathons of TV shows. The idea being to compete against Netflix with ad funded content to drive down Netflix subscriptions to avoid just further fragmenting the FTA market.

Hopefully the MPEG 4 compression they are going to use isn’t like 78 Racing.com, which my equipment won’t play.

      1. Plus on further thinking about it, if they made it a Family Channel that would make it difficult for advertising, as the ads would have to match to a PG rating only and for some children’s programming (C and G), be restrictive in things such as fast food commercials.

  6. Seems to me that 9Life left Seven at the gate and this is just a mish-mash of shows and movies thrown together in an attempt to make up some ground.
You can bet that they’ll fiddle with this rundown.
I wouldn’t expect anything new or first-run here.

  7. This seems like a wasted opportunity. Most of these shows could be on both 7TWO and 7MATE. I recon TEN should make a comedy channel surely Foxtel can give them some old shows from the comedy channel. And they could show some old TEN stuff like you’re gen, thank god your here. Stand up shows and and some sit coms (I don’t know what that would mean for Eleven though)

  8. hope prime do not muck us country viewers around, i will scream if I can’t get my How to Get Away with murder fix. Even if it airs at 3am I will sit up and watch it.

  9. Let’s hope this is also the time that 7HD appears (and 7mate reverts to SD)? So far no promos relating to whether there will be a 7HD anytime soon. I would expect Seven who have now started promoting if it was coming in time for AFL season.

  10. The main thing is: how long will those listed shows last before they get shafted and replaced with something else? Could be similar to GO! in the it starts with a bunch of scripted shows but gradually ended up with Films 7 nights a week.

  11. So, more like Go-Gem than ABC2, kids shows, repeats from the main channel, syndicated shows and some back catalogue movies. Exciting, innovative, no. Cheap, yes.

  12. More choice of old crap to chose from. Both 7Two and 7Mate keep getting their programming switched and moved around. One minute Mate is for the males next they show cartoons. AllI can say to the Ten network is your next station needs a theme and stick to it. I still say a crime channel would rate well but please don’t include encores of Ten programs like Masterchef, etc. Stick to a theme.

  13. Oh great, finally some info on this new channel. So those shows listed are they new episodes or older ones?

Hopefully now 7 will do like GO do & fast track Amazing Race instead of us being 2 or 3 weeks behind. In this day & age it’s almost impossible not to get spoilers of who was eliminated.

    1. Can’t imagine they will care. For around $10 a month you get HD ad free movies and tv shows compared to SD tv broken up every 10 minutes with 2 minutes of ads. Completely different value propositions and target audiences.

  14. Horrid logo and a confusing line up which suggests when the “Coming soon” catpion appeared on 76 that Seven had no idea what they’d be putting on it.

A female skewing channel probably was the way to go but this feels very much like a rush afterthought.

  15. A movie channel should do quite well. As someone who has had to spend long periods in hospital, I can tell you that general daytime TV is worse than useless.
