Neighbours will air its first-ever one hour episode as part of its “biggest ever week” when the famed Lassiters complex explodes.

In true soap style, lives will hang in the balance, but not everyone will make it out alive.

Over the course of the week, each episode is set in a different room and focuses on the fate of a separate set of characters.

Executive producer Jason Herbison told Digital Spy: “Hotel Death Trap week might well be the biggest week of Neighbours ever. Kicking off with an explosion at Lassiters Hotel, every episode sees brand new stories unfold, including shock returns, mysterious strangers, twists and turns aplenty and jeopardy for all our beloved characters.

In the UK the one hour episode is getting a primetime 10pm screening.

The action kicks off at 6:30pm on Monday April 4 on ELEVEN with the one hour episode to screen on Tuesday April 5.

  1. I seem to recall an hour of Neighbours sometime in the last 10 years. It was technically a double episode, probably to make up for an episode that didn’t go to air during the week, for what I assume was a major news story.

  2. Coronation Street was the first to air an hour long episode and it was live to air back in 1990 Neighbours episode is not live it’s pre recorded

  3. 10pm seems a little late for this family freindly show. The one hour ep, is definately an English influence. Eastenders sometimes does this, but UKtv here, just show them in the usual half hour eps. I wonder if elevin will start it half an hour early and forgo their 3 channel screening of Family Fued.

    1. Well 8.30pm is considered late in Australian TV.

As the smallest of the big 5 C5 can generally attract more viewers at 10pm than earlier in the evening as the BBC and ITV screen the news. There is also somewhat of a tradition of late night soap-spin offs here too, mainly with Hollyoaks but Coronation Street and Emmerdale have both screened at 10pm in the past, as have EastEnders repeats and I think a spin-off series too.

  4. Kudos to Neighbours for trialling out a one-hour episode, even if it is just a once off.

On another note, lets see if TV Week has Neighbours on the main cover for this explosive week, instead of the usual Home and Away.
