21st Century FOX has cancelled its $376.8 million output deal with TEN.
Permanently leaving TEN are:
The Simpsons, Modern Family, This is Us and The X-Files plus Bob’s Burgers, American Horror Story, Empire, Star, New Girl, The X-Files, Speechless, COPS, The Last Man on Earth, Fresh Off the Boat, American Crime Story plus Malcolm in the Middle, MASH and Futurama.
The Simpsons has aired on TEN for 27 years but Season 29 is yet to debut.
The Australian reports the long-term agreement was set to expire on June 30, 2019.
Other networks including Seven, Nine and Foxtel could now potentially swoop on the shows.

makes you wonder if any cbs shows on other networks will end up on ten
We will have to wait and see what CBS have planned for it’s Australian investment in Channel 10, there may be an opening for more Australian produced drama that could find a market in the USA among other places, who knows maybe some U.S. shows could also be made in Australia as well. Somehow I don’t think 21st Century Fox will be a major concern for CBS but it probably should be for Mr Murdoch who is trying to figure out what to do with Foxtel.
Good bye This is US. I enjoyed the first season and I’m sad to see you go. I’ll look out for you on Library DVD.
This all boils down to the CBS/Murdoch/Gordon bidding war, and when CBS won the rights to acquire Ten, Murdoch throws a hissy fit and decides to punish Ten by taking away its right to air programs made by Fox. But Gordon was willing to accept defeat, and Murdoch can’t have anything he wants.
Pretty sad as so many of those shows are iconically linked to ten…The Simpsons, The X Files, Modern Family and MASH are channel ten shows. Then there’s one of the few US hits This is Us, you would have thought more effort would have gone into saving the deal.
Don’t forget Seven had MASH rights for years during 2000s (aired before Deal or no Deal if I’m not mistaken?)
I didn’t forget that, one of the few repeat sitcoms that showed on FTA during the 00s,before multi channels. But MASHs first run was on ten and it ended up back there is why I included it on my list.
Wow, what total babies they are. Hopefully shows like New Girl, Empire, Modern Family & This is Us will get picked up by 7 or 9. Hope they don’t go to foxtel or one of the streaming services.
I hope they remain on FTA, loyal and dedicated fans who have watched these shows for years should not have to pay to watch something that has been available for free for years.
I wont be losing sleep over this….but the graphic is excellent…. 🙂
Same! I don’t watch any of the shows. I like graphic too!
I do hope that this means better content for the secondary channels. The only things I watch on TEN is the weekday news, Graham Norton and Gogglebox.
Could one network purchase just one or two programs (say Simpsons and AHS)? Or will Fox be seeking another expensive output deal?
Keep in mind that one show can have both free TV rights and pay TV rights. Of course Foxtel can have complete exclusivity, but almost all of these shows have been in either first run or second run on Foxtel for years while they’ve been on TEN at the same time. All that will change is that Seven or Nine may cherry pick a few, or Foxtel might buy full rights, and titles Seven and Nine aren’t interested in may become de facto Foxtel exclusives.
The Simpsons was a huge hit for TEN, but hasn’t been a ratings winner for a long time.
If it means that Simpsons will replace any reality show on Ch 7 / 9, so be it.
Will miss The Simpson’s a bit…but enjoying reruns of Will & Grace though!
Do’ h! Channel 10 will never be the same. It’s the end of a era. ):
I can’t imagine 7 or 9 wanting to buy many (if any) of those shows listed, Foxtel will most likely get the majority (if not all) of them.
These are some interesting times.
Most of these shows don’t rate on Ten anyway, however there will definitely be gaps in the schedule w/o Modern Family and The Simpsons
Go! or 7Flix would be ideal homes for Simpsons/Mash/ other animated titles. Seven or Nine could really redefine/build one of their multichannels off the back of acquiring these titles.
Probably a few more shows you could confirm with Ten as they come under the Fox output deal – Salem, You’re the Worst, Rosewood, The Strain, The Americans, Homeland, Tyrant, Man Seeking Woman and Last Man Standing. The previous new upfront show Pitch that has not screened yet will never screen. Life in Pieces is a CBS show but distributed by Fox so that is probably out as well. Are you able to confirm these extra titles?
Would Murdoch sell some titles to his mate Bruce Gordon at WIN?
You mean like how Bruce Gordon sold programs to his mate Rupert, who then owned WIN, back in the 60s? Hmmm.
Ok so, the up coming 11th season of the x-files could be on 7,9 or foxtel(doubt the abc or sbs would have any interest in showing it, or could afford them). Possibly netflix or stan as other chance to secure the rights. I remember Presto had the rights for the Original series of the x-files, and show the 2 films regularly on their film channels, so maybe foxtel might get the rights and fasttrack them (unlike 10 who did not for season 10 in 2016(
Always sounded like sour grapes with Murdoch Jnr missing out on buying Ch 10.
Disappointing that I won’t be able to just switch over and find a ep of MASH to watch. Hope someone picks with This Is Us soon
Well this just made CBS’ job of turning the network around a lot harder. If FOX were being logical (which all indicators suggest they’re not) could TEN still buy individual titles like Seven and Nine have done with Universal and Warner Bros respectively?
Ten could still buy individual titles.. But things aren’t good between them and Fox and CBS wouldn’t be buying stuff from a US rival unless it was good value.
Great picture! Shame to see all these titles leaving TEN, but I think Foxtel would be the best pick up option for the majority, if not all. At least then, they’ll have consistent scheduling for the drama, and Foxtel already have the rerun rights to many current titles. Perhaps 7Flix or Go! could pick up the reruns for Malcolm, Simpsons, Futurama, etc.
What about The X-Files?
either channel 7 or foxtel, doubt nine has any interest in the x-files, would end up on Go! maybe if they did.
Probably from 9 to 9Go to another network.
One could see this coming as CBS takes control of Ten, in my view. Sure there are some good shows in there but nothing Ten can’t replace.
