US actor Doug Davidson has revealed he is out of daytime soap The Young and the Restless after 40 years with the show.
Davidson, who plays Detective Paul Williams, told Soaps.com the show was headed in another direction.
“My contract was not renewed in January, I went on recurring, but just until they had new people in place. I have only 2 shows that haven’t aired and no dates. So, as far as I know, I am gone,” he said.
After a fan took to Twitter to ask, “They haven’t let you go, have they?” he responded, “It seems so.”
Davidson first appeared on The Young and the Restless in 1978, winning a Daytime Emmy Award in 2013.
The soap airs weekdays in Australia on Arena.

Loyalty means absolutely nothing anymore.
Considering the Young and the Restless still use sets and recycled formulaic scripts that are older than the 40 years this actor has been with the show, ‘heading in another direction’ is an interesting comment.
Surprisingly the show has updated and introduced a number of new sets over the years. The “40 year old recycled ones” are in the minority these days!
Really feeel for Doug Davidson. It appears the writers are wanting to get all of the vet actors out of the show. Doug, Eileen is leaving due to “contract disputes” as is Christel Khalil. I imagine beyound 2020 the show will not be renewed.
Wow. They will undoubtedly lose long time fans. Y and R has been the most popular daytime soap for years. This may change that.
Look for Bold and the Beautiful to join it on the chopping block.
I think you will find Bold’s international sales have it firmly secured.
That doesn’t matter to CBS.
Sometimes a show is so successful beyond the US it can live without US network. Baywatch & Fame spring to mind.
