Seven is producing a feature-length interview special with former AFL star Ben Cousins.
The Australian reports after his release from prison Cousins gave a “no question off limits” interview to Perth-based Basil Zempilas last week.
The special is under the watch of producer Mark Llewellyn, who most recently departed Nine (and previously Seven).
In August 2018 Cousins was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including drug possession, making threats and breaking a violence restraining order. He was released on bail in April 2019.
Cousins was the subject of a high-profile Such is Life documentary in 2010, which drew 2 million viewers.

He’s a has-been who has been given a million second chances, and squandered them all. He should not be validated with this sort of rubbish. Plus, he and Basil Zempilas are long-time friends, so it’s hardly going to be objective.
Why will I watch this, even though I cannot stand Ben Cousins?
I just naturally assume Cousins was paid. It’s how it works…get out the cheque book. I don’t think this will draw 2 million viewers…
It might be wrong to say, but I hope he isn’t getting paid for this interview given his past. Should someone profit from talking about their past criminal activity, especially when it is so recent?
Interesting to no if any payment comes under Australian proceeds-of-crime law
