  1. Well done, his speech’s we’re really well done as well, especially the Bert Newton Presenter award, you could feel his emotion of how he felt about Bert in his speech, a worthy winner of both awards.
Of the night too Hamish was one of the few who were actually amusing, the other being Sam Pang when he went to accept the Fisk award.

  2. I was hoping for Melissa Leong to win! She’s been a bringing so much food knowledge to Masterchef and a breathe of fresh air in the last two years. The food stories and memories that she shares on Masterchef really resonates with me and many other Asian Australians, and it would have been great representation for us if she had won.

    1. She’ll be a great contender in the future, she just needs to have a bigger resume. I’m sure she will, as producers will be offering her more work all the time.

  3. In no way diminishing Hamish’s achievements, he really was the only option for winner. The Gold should always be someone who proves themselves over multiple shows or elements of TV and media. Most of the other’s were one trick ponies, and at least one who was there to fit the diversity quota.

Having said that, what quality speeches he made. For a comedian, who can be quite silly sometimes, there is genuine heart there. His message after winning the Presenter Award was near perfection.

  4. First time in 14 years, a winner has won for a second time. Kate Ritchie back in 07/08 was the last multiple recipient of the Gold. When I was a kid and young adult, there would be so many repeat winners: Lisa, Ray, Georgie, Rove and of course deservedly so, Bert. It has been good to see a different person win for over a decade. But Hamish seems like a lovely bloke and I can see why he is popular.

  5. It was claimed by a journalist that Hamish is the new Bert. I think not until he has his own morning show or does morning TV. That would certainly bring back viewers to the old Good Morning Australia timeslot.

Hamish has a background in radio and a breakfast radio style show on the television is a format that could compete with breakfast news offerings on TV. In some European countries, they literally broadcast the radio studios on some TV channels, like on the TV multichannels which is a really cool idea that’s better than a blank screen or audio only text, and TV broadcasts or live streams of radio shows and stations would gain further interest beyond just hearing the programs on the radio. You get to see the hosts (who often look different to what you expected from their voices if you hadn’t seen what they looked like before), the guests and the interviews in the studio.

  6. Makes sense that Hamish took out the Gold. Not sure how many Gold winners haven’t taken out their respective silver category but it would be a small number.

  7. Honestly, does the result need to be the headline of the story? It then becomes the subject of the automatic email update, and it then becomes a spoiler. I can stay off Facebook and other socials, I can stay off your website and other news websites, I can even not open emails. But you know the one thing I can’t avoid? The subject line of the email that comes through. Sure, I could unsubscribe, but I shouldn’t have to as it’s an important mechanic to keep driving traffic to the website.

I’m only up to Patti Newton, so I guess I’ll have to pretend to be surprised in a couple hours.

    1. It genuinely surprises me that someone can be so invested in the Logies that they’re disappointed when they see a spoiler the next day.

The voting for these things is questionable at best – low rating programs drawing Most Popular votes for example. It’s not like it’s a genuine contest – more a novelty.
