  1. This Logies awards ceremony was perfect! They no longer take themselves too seriously, like how could they since the Tom Gleeson incident lol. Even the few years building up to that i think has been much more ‘real’ in terms of them saying ‘ok these awards have some signifigance but we also recognize there is alot to have fun with here’. Julia Morris was fantastic, loved her forced dance routine, that summed it all up perfectly. Tony Martin’s announcing was spot on too.

I think this year after the pandemic lockdowns also highlighted though for the naysayers that TV including FTA (& the reality shows) is still very important. It really did help alot of us thru the lockdowns, not only for entertainment but the ABC news service became more needed then ever too. It was also great to see so many fantastic & very deserving nominees for best drama & congratulations to the team from ‘Fires’.

  2. The British Soap Awards in London last weekend did a lovely tribute to Neighbours. Perhaps the Logies need to look at their British Cousins in the UK to see how it should be done!

  3. 3 favourite moments – Tom Gleeson and Karl’s one-upmanship on the red carpet. Tom is taller, Karl has “deeper pockets”, but Tom’s show has a boardgame so he wins. The bloke with the beer trying to push past Osher introing Jess Mauboy. And Jimmy Rees’ sketch on the origin of the Logies.

  4. I’m surprised The Front Bar didn’t win Most Popular Panel or Current Affairs Program. It’s a bit of an odd category and should be split up so if there was a Most Popular Panel Program, it could have shows like hypothetically Would I Lie To You? Australia, Gruen or any potential panel style shows, whether they be new, based on other overseas formats or revivals. Panel shows are more comedic compared to current affairs programs and they need the support they can get as a significant format.

As the category stands now, you could hypothetically have WILTY up against The 7.30 Report. It wouldn’t make sense. I remember on HYBPA? last week that they were mocking the category when talking to Sam Pang about being nominated for current affairs.

I think the perception of the odd category may have affected the winner of the category.

    1. The Cheap Seats was nominated for the Most Popular Comedy Program, despite being “a panel show”. The Front Bar should really be more suited to the “Most Popular Entertainment Program” where variety-type shows are, instead of the category it was is. Which really should be renamed “News-Panel or Public Affairs” rather than a loosely based Panel or Public Affairs Program.

      1. I was trying to think whether The Cheap Seats is actually a panel show. I wasn’t sure because it’s mainly Mel and Tim with friends and guests. I think it’s a panel show if it has more than 2 people on the panel for the whole show. That’s a difficult one to decide though and I don’t have the rules for what is a panel show.

  5. For me it was the most boring Logies ever. The event needs a network change and a revamp. Now TV Week isn’t involved, its time for change across the board. I doubt it will happen but something needs to change and a network change might do it the world of good.

    1. I actually found it to be one of the better ones in the last decade or so, horses for courses i guess. Perhaps a bit overly long & should have finished on time though.

  6. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that it was evident that the voting was more balanced for the whole viewing audience. There was still some discrimination with the requirement to have a mobile number, but it was still much more even. Prior to 2019, it had become a joke, because the majority voters were teenage girls who pushed H & A in every category. This time, I felt most of the winners made sense for the total audience. There is still a problem with categories, and allowing stations to nominate their choices. We need a “Lite” drama category so that soaps are not pitted against quality miniseries.

On the negative side, I found the music a bit bland. I would have loved an opening production number. While we all love Patti, she was allowed to ramble for far too long (I switched channels several times, then back only to find her still talking). Some of the fashion was questionable (trying not to look at you, Sophie).

Best moment was the Travel Guides families on stage.

  7. Patti Newton was so lovely. A highlight for me and I think Bert would be so happy that Hamish won his inaugural award. It was embarrassing seeing Logie winners being put right up the back of the room and all the time wasted while they all had to make their way to the stage. I thought Gold Logie nominees are the only ones who can have their partners or whoever with them so wondering why Andy Lee’s girlfriend was able to be there? Not losing sleep over it but just has me wondering?

  8. It needed a host. Why not utilise the 7 nominees for Most Popular Personality? Get them to share hosting duties, after all they are ‘personalities’ – if they can’t introduce a a couple of categories each, what is the point of only seeing them after nearly 4 hours in their category. Previous hosts have done little spotlights on the Gold nominees. For me the music is redundant and just swells the evening out. The best presenter of the night for me was Chrissie Swan loved how she put Karl into his place!

  9. I sat down to watch some streaming and turned the telly on at about 7:20… whilst waiting for it to load all my apps, the Logies was on. So I stayed and watched for a bit. Then I found myself watching the entire thing. It was quite enjoyable imo. Sure the same old problem of it running overtime and feeling a little bloated are ever present (the musical performances were lacklustre, the presenters naming the nominees and then we get to a full vid of the nominees and their work… that’s double handling… some presenters took too long to do the nominations… and worse, some presenters just not being funny like Rove’s whole thing, fell embarrassingly flat), but it’s a true testament to the presentation this year to keep this short-attention-span-TV-watcher staying and smiling for 4 hours. Luckily the speeches were all quite funny and short.
It was a solid night tbh. It had a kind of prestige feel that’s been sorely lacking for a while.

  10. Logies thoughts: bland as hell seems to be the best description.
Hamish Blake won Gold for being perhaps the unfunniest and most irritating person on Australian television.
Home and Away won for Most Popular Drama again. Yawn.
Loved Jimmy Rees’ bits. Probably the most enjoyable things about the show.
After a 37 year run, Neighbours rated a brief two minute highlights reel and kind words from former cast members with a vague shot of the current cast sittint at their table. This tribute was a disgrace and just shows how the Australian television industry has turned their backs on Neighbours. It’s a soap, but one that did a hell of a lot for the industry and deserves more praise than it got..
The Project did not deserve to win. That show has gone so far off the rails. It’s barely watchable.
Patti’s tribute to Bert was beautiful.
Jacki Weaver is always amazing, but Troye Sivan should have won that award. Three Months is amazing.
Calum Scott’s performance was good, if unremarkable.

    1. Well summarised and I agree entirely.

Disgusting treatment of Neighbours. If the Logies had been on Ten perhaps it would have been different.

  11. Here are my pons and cons of the logies so far tonight.

    Pons
I’m happy Gogglebox and MasterChef have won in their categories.
I’m also happy that Bruce McAvaney has been induced into the hall of fame, he deserves it.
And they just did in memorial and that was really good.
    Cons
I’m not happy that the project won in Most Popular Panel or Current Affairs Program because i wanted the fort bar to win.

And that’s my thoughts of the logies so far tonight.

  12. Loving the Logies …. Patti grace and elegance ….. Bruce legendary …. Hamish ability to ad lib is fitting for Bert’s award …. Fantastic night …. Even though it’s been going for hours, doesn’t feel like it

  13. So this means Caroline Jones can never be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Bruce could have been punted to another year. Bring on a separate event for the Hall of Fame.

    1. It might be a good idea to do posthumous Hall of Fame, since alot of the TV legends are aging into their 70’s & well beyond now. So its not that unexpected someone could be mentioned for nomination but die before the ceremony.

  14. Really quite disappointed in their Neighbours tribute. They could have done so much more and brought the current cast on stage, rather than a badly lit camera shot of the cast at their table.

    1. Agreed, it was an incredibly disappointing tribute to a show that has run for 37 years, had close to 9000 episodes and has been one of the biggest employers in the entertainment industry in Australia for years. A quick montage and a few photos of stars was pathetic, there could have been much more time spent highlighting the many stars that have stepped up from Neighbours to Hollywood and then give the current cast the chance to speak as well. Pathetic that Channel 9 didn’t do more.

      1. The fact that they didn’t even get any of the current cast to present an award is insulting. Really poor form.

I actually switched off after this.
