Report: Eddie to front Melbourne Cup coverage on 10?

Is the Hot Seat host headed back to the network where his career began?

Eddie McGuire back at 10?

The Herald Sun is speculating that the Hot Seat host is in line to front Melbourne Cup coverage for the network where his career began.

On Footy Classified McGuire was asked by Caroline Wilson if he would be fronting the racing coverage this year.

“I’ve got no comment to make about anything about this,” he said.

“And in due course things will be announced that I’m doing, in fact here at the Nine network.”

10’s racing coverage was co-hosted last year by Michael Felgate, Caty Price and Michelle Payne. Sports presenter Stephen Quartermain has also previously co-hosted with Gorgi Coghlan.

But McGuire did rule out any involvement in AFL for 10 and / or Paramount+ plans.

“I can tell you right now I’m categorically not involved in any football with Paramount or Channel 10,” he said.

When McGuire joined FOX Footy, his Nine honchos insisted that deal included no other Foxtel content, which indicates there is soom room to move on contracts.

Given he denied AFL involvement but not horse racing, this looks pretty likely to take place.

  1. I’m probably overthinking this, but here goes…. Paramount has deep pockets and owns both a free-to-air network (Network 10) and a streaming service (Paramount+) operarting in Australia. This makes Paramount a significant player in the upcoming AFL broadcasting rights negotiations. Eddie’s an experienced host and caller of AFL matches, so his link to Network 10 for the Melbourne Cup could also be a canny hedging of his bets just in case Paramount wins the AFL auction.
