Mad as Hell producers: “We completely understand Shaun’s decision”

ITV Studios Australia thank cast & crew for ABC comedy as discussions continue about its future.

ITV Studios Australia has responded to media reports about the future of Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell, after its host confirmed a desire to hand the baton to a new host.

CEO & Managing Director, David Mott said, “Whilst we are all incredibly disappointed that Mad As Hell will be taking a break after this upcoming season, we completely understand Shaun’s decision.

“I am incredibly grateful to Shaun and the entire cast and crew for delivering 15 magnificent series.

“With conversations continuing about the future of the show, stay home Canberra, as Shaun, more than ever, will not miss you in this next season of Mad As Hell – whether you’re blue, red, green or teal.”

ABC is in discussions with Micallef about creative projects ahead of its season return 8:40pm Wednesday July 20 on ABC.

  1. That’s a shame. I love this show. It’d be nice if he stayed on in some capacity and made appearances from time to time. It’s promising however, that he is in discussions with the network about other projects. 🙂

  2. Part of me expected Shaun to call it quits now the Age Of Scotty From Marketing was over so this isn’t really a shock. But he is an inimitable powerful satirical voice and he will leave a heck of a void. Replacing the host on the show would probably work as well as Spicks & Specks 2 (of which the only thing actually wrong was the fact that it wasn’t Adam, Myf and Alan). They’d be better to start afresh with a whole new title, format and cast.

    1. 10 years / 15 seasons is a very long time to be commenting / satirizing the same kind of content. Sure the players may change but not so much the substance. The show predates ScoMo as PM by I guess 7 years so I don’t read into his decision as ScoMo related rather, does he have the energy to revamp the show with a new government. The show is brilliant and good to see him go on his terms.
