Report: NSW in push for Logie Awards

It's a border battle over TV's night of nights, as questions arise in NSW State Parliament.

The NSW government has made an offer to bring the Logie Awards to Sydney from Queensland.

According to a report, Destination NSW is thought to be keen to bring the Logies to Sydney under its newly acquired festival franchise, South By South West -but it looks unlikely to shift before 2024.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports under grilling from Labor’s John Graham in parliament on Monday, Destination NSW’s chief executive Steve Cox did not deny it intended to poach the Logies from the Gold Coast.

Cox told parliament Destination NSW, the state’s leading tourism and events arm, was always looking at major events and any conversations it was having to secure events were “commercial in confidence”.

However Tourism and Events Queensland secured a four-year deal to host the Logies in 2018, but COVID-19 caused the cancellation for two of those years. Queensland is believed to have first and last rights to extend its contract.

Earlier reports suggest Seven has also swooped on TV’s night of nights from Nine, an upset that is yet to be confirmed by either broadcaster.
