“Sometimes it lands well, and other times, the cast are like, ‘Really? Is that it?'”

How does the Survivor host feel about those final lines at the end of Tribal Council?

“That’s the way the cookie crumbles.”

“This tribe is going up in flames.”

Survivor host Joanthan LaPaglia is scripted episode footnotes that are sometimes poetic, and sometimes a bit of a bad Dad joke, but always with a reaction from the tribe.

So how does he feel about them?

“I don’t dread them because for the most part, I think they’re quite fun,” he tells TV Tonight.

“I mean we’ve certainly created something for ourselves because we started it from day one and it’s become a thing now, right? Like, the players are on the edge of their stools waiting for it. And the audience is the same. Sometimes it lands well, and other times, the cast are like, ‘Really? Is that it?’

“But it’s hard. It’s like every second night, we try to come up with something that’s clever and catchy. Sometimes it lands better than others, but that’s what we’ve decided to do. On one hand, we’ve created a bunch of work for ourselves, but for the most part I think it’s fun way to end the episode.”

  1. I don’t watch much of Survivor but what I have watched the Australian and American versions are better versions (Dad jokes, who cares a joke is how a person perceives it anyway so good on him. I’ve been a bit of a fan of Jonathan and Jeff) unlike the Romanian version where a female contestant head butted a teammate, KO him and broke his nose all because he didn’t perform well during their challenge. Now that’s no joke, completely unnecessary and OTT but worst of all what message is that sending to people especially to viewers and contestants doing that ……win at all costs…..Is it really worth it.

  2. I love ’em. JLP’s final thought leaves everyone feeling good after the tensions of the tribal and it’s a beat that’s been noticeably missing from the US version for quite some time.
