Time out from the Bay for Georgie Parker

Georgie Parker pauses her TV commitments to tread the boards in Sydney.

Georgie Parker  is taking time out from Home & Away commitments for an appearance with the Ensemble Theatre in Kirribilli.

David Williamson’s Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica opens on Friday and plays until late April. She previously starred in the play 13 years ago with co-star Glenn Hazeldine, and both now reunite in an updated production.

“I’m lucky that with Home & Away or any other TV productions I’ve been involved with, I’ve been very fortunate that I kind of put it out there — if it’s going to be long term, that I need time out for plays,” she told Yahoo. “Channel Seven has always been very generous with letting me do that and ask for [time off]. I just get it written into my contract.”

Home & Away films approximately five months in advance, meaning viewers can expect Georgie’s character of Roo Stewart to disappear around August.

  1. This is where I am confused. When Sam Frost announced she was leaving last year she was still on air for around 4 months. Same with Georgie Parker. But with Dean & Ziggy it was announced last week they were leaving & they are gone this week. I thought we would have them for about 4 months since it is filmed months in advance.

    1. Allow me to provide you with some clarity. The show is typically filmed approximately fifteen weeks in advance. Lynne Mcgranger made a post on her official Instagram page a few weeks back that both Patrick O’Connor (Dean Thompson) and Sophie Dillman (Ziggy Astoni) filmed their final scenes in July 2022. The couple only announced it last week. It’s thrown a few people off.
