Renewed: 911 / 911: Lone Star

US procedurals returning, although one is changing broadcasters stateside.

US procedural 911: Lone Star has been renewed for Season 5, and 911 for a seventh seasons but the latter is moving broadcasters, from FOX to ABC.

FOX used to own studios 20th Television, but now has to pay a licensing fee to Disney to air the series and with broadcast ratings continuing to decline, FOX opted to back away from further seasons of 911.

“It has been an honor to be the founding network of 911 and we are grateful to Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, together with Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Ryan Guzman and the rest of the cast and crew, and 20th Television for delivering such an impactful series to Fox,” the network said in a statement. “We wish them well after 911’s final FOX season concludes.”

“Thanks to the creative drive of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, 911 has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honored to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,” said Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group. “It’s a privilege to keep 911 in the family with 20th Television producing, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air.”

In Australia both series are screening on Monday nights on Seven.

  1. 911 is such a fabulous show with great characters and a beautiful heart. Keeps your heart racing with whatever dramatic rescue is happening that episode and then hearts are soothed as the main characters resolve their personal issues usually realising they are all one big happy extended family. I’m totally addicted to it and hope it continues on for many more seasons.

  2. Wow! This is a surprise and quite a shock! I didn’t expect 9-1-1 to be moving channels! If anything, I thought 9-1-1 Lone Star would move channels, not the original (considering how much more enjoy 9-1-1 rather then 9-1-1 Lone Star)!

To be totally honest, Seasons 1 & 2 were the best of the show. Since COVID, I think the show’s interestingness has dropped, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a very solid show and something I enjoy!

  3. I have always been amazed of the waste of talent in Falchuk, Murphy and Minear and some good actors working on a silly procedural for Fox. They wrote a few of the season premieres and finals in the first 2 seasons, but nearly all the writing has been farmed out to staff and contract writers and very uneven. Season 6 has been phoned in with a reduced budget and it’s not surprising Fox said no. Disney will now produce, air and distribute it globally.
