Footy Show tipped for grand final special

A one-off special is rumoured to look back on 30 years of Footy Show Grand Final Spectaculars.

The Footy Show is rumoured to be getting a grand final comeback special.

The Herald Sun reports a special celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Grand Final Footy Show Spectacular is expected to air ahead of the AFL Grand Final.

The special will reportedly include highlights from precious specials including the showstopping Player Revue, usually dominated by a Shane Crawford extravaganza.

The first Footy Show Grand Final Spectacular aired in 1993 as an extension of the Sunday Footy Show ahead of the prime-time Footy Show.

Production has started on the special, not expected as a Rod Laver Arena spectacle, with Eddie McGuire due to host. Sam Newman has confirmed he had been approached.

There are also hopes for a further special to mark the 30th anniversary of the The Footy Show next year.

  1. Why we need a one-off Footy Show comeback? Most original members (e.g. JB, Bec, Hughesy, Gary Lyon) of TFS no longer working at Nine. Not everyone watches TFS these days.

  2. Please leave this relic in the past where it belongs. The ‘humour’ almost always came at the cost of people rather than any actual intelligent comedy. The Front Bar shows how you can still be funny without relying on outdated stereotypes.

There are plenty of egotistical, old, white men on talkback radio and Sky News. We don’t need them returning to TV. Leave them in the 90s where they belong.
