Michael Tetlow steps away from ABC Late News

Perth-based late news presenter is heading to ABC Radio in the West.

ABC Late News presenter Michael Tetlow is switching mediums, having been announced as the new presenter of ABC Radio Perth’s Afternoons program, at least until the rest of the year.

Tetlow has more than 25 years’ experience as a reporter, presenter and producer in Australia and the UK. He joined the ABC in Perth as a presenter on the national Late News service when it began in early 2018. He has also presented the weather and 7.00pm news bulletin in Western Australia.

ABC Radio Perth Manager Sarah Knight said, “I’m delighted to welcome Michael to the ABC Radio Perth family.

“He brings great experience to the role and I’m sure his sense of optimism will appeal to our Afternoon audience. And for those who have enjoyed Dustin Skipworth over the past three months, don’t worry, he will still be a part of the Afternoons team.”

Michael added, “I love a good chat and Afternoons on ABC Radio is the perfect place for that. I’m looking forward to the company of our listeners across Perth and WA and helping them share their stories and thoughts.”

Tetlow will present the radio show from Monday 4 September until the end of the year, at which time the ABC will confirm the 2024 presenter line up.

  1. I don’t see where they are on “simultaneously”. In Eastern states maybe, occasionally, but in SA, NT, WA, and Qld in Summer, where The World is ‘Live’ and Late News is on delay they never air simultaneously. But then, anyone wanting a real late news wrap should be watching SBS World News Late

  2. Pretty sure he was the first Australian TV presenter to announce the Queen’s death.

I like his style but don’t really understand the point of having The world live on the news channel and this live on the main channel simultaneously at that time of night

    1. I think The World has more long form interviews on the main news events of the day (similar to the axed Lateline program) with presenter Bev O’Connor talking to an industry or academic expert. It also goes for a full hour.

The late news (main channel) is just that, news for about 20 mins for viewers to get a quick dose of what’s happened before going to bed if they’ve missed the 7pm bulletin.
