Live coverage begins on 9GEM before moving to Nine later in the evening.

Wimbledon 2024, the third major Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year, begins on Monday.

Coverage begins 7.30pm on 9GEM before moving to Nine later in the evening.

Nine’s Wide World of Sports commentary team will include Todd Woodbridge, Alica Molik, Tony Jones, Jelena Dokic, Samantha Stosur and Brenton Speed, with Roz Kelly and Brett Phillips hosting.

After reaching the quarter-finals at Roland Garros earlier this year, Alex de Minaur is among the 11 Australian players confirmed for the singles at Wimbledon. Completing the male Aussie lineup are Thanasi Kokkinakis, Jordan Thompson, Alexei Popyrin, Chris O’Connell, Rinky Hijikata, Max Purcell, Aleksander Vukic and Adam Walton.

After missing Wimbledon in 2023 due to a knee injury, Aijla Tomjanovic will return to the grass. Daria Saville is the other Australian woman in the tournament.

Coming off his first French Open title, defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz is considered the man to beat. Alcaraz, 21, recently became the youngest male player to win major titles on all three surfaces, after claiming the US Open in 2023. His strongest opponent is the 2024 Australian Open champion and current world No.1 Jannik Sinner.

After her recent victory at Roland Garros, world No.1 Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek is aiming to add a grass court Wimbledon major to her trophy cabinet. Apart from the top seed, Australia Open champion and world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka and American Coco Gauff are among the fancied contenders.

The great Aussie champion Ash Barty will make a return to Wimbledon to play in the Invitational Doubles, playing for the first time since retiring after winning the 2022 Australian Open.

  1. A few weeks ago When 9Gem aired the French Open, they aired the first 4 hrs live on FTA. After 9PM (Perth time), they ditched the coverage and went into movies instead. The point is that they shove more matches under Stan. I think this might have ramifications with other GS events – US Open due to the massive timezone difference between US and Aus. 9Gem might possibly screen the final few hours of day coverage live. As well, this could even affect Aus Open (when new AO deal kicks in 7 months’ time). Nine might alter the deal which would mean more matches being shoved under Stan and would limit to only 9 main channel. This is the reason why Stan wanted more sub numbers.
I saw the ad which shows that the Albanese government wants people to pay to watch tennis live. This is going to be very bad for many sports fans.

    1. The Australian Open (all matches produced) are covered by the current anti-siphoning laws. They are also covered in the draft legislation as well.

      1. Every game of every round of AFL and NRL are also on the list, but the commercial reality is that no FTA network has the finances to pay for it.

Additionally, the anti siphoning list does not (currently) apply to streaming services. Stan could obtain all broadcast rights and not break any laws.

  2. Lets hope it is better than their French Open coverage, id say at least half the night by midnight the free to air coverage was over and you had to switch to Stan Sports.

It is ok for people like me who just added on the sport subscription but it is the people that can’t do that I felt for.
