Auditions: Missing Pieces

Get out the violins! Nine is looking for people to reunite for a new TV programme.

Channel Nine is on the hunt for participants in a new television show that reunites people.

It was, after all, David Gyngell who said “blue sky TV” was all the rage lately.

Missing Pieces reckons it wants “people who have become separated from someone they care about, or someone who had a major impact on your life no matter how long ago.”

Nine’s website says, “Maybe we can help reunite you with someone special.”

Seven has had a big hit with Find my Family, though of course the reuniting of loved ones harks back to the 1960s when it was a feature of daytime variety shows.

  1. Pam the so called “Goose” you talk about may have family, but there would be reasons that they don`t give a stuff about them could it be that they where lied to so many times that the trust is not there.

  2. I’d really like to see a follow up on some of these “reunion” shows – bet there are very few happy endings after the crocodile tears. There are so many people who have families and couldn’t give a stuff about them yet the goose participants in these shows run all over the world looking for someone they don’t even know!!

  3. i would like some more information as my parter has been trying to find his partens for 9 years now. we have little bit of information but would like more informatio or hope you can help

  4. I think it great that Nine is also doing the same as seven,as the show is fantastic, and seven throughly booked out and now nine to do the serious.
good luck. I do like these types of reality show as they are true stories.

  5. I Dont understand why People are whinging about the Nine Network, I Bet you whineing have Copied Someone or Something in your years, It sounds like Schoolyard Crap..

  6. ABC’s “Can We Help” has been doing this for a couple of years – long before “Find My Family” ever turned up. I find that the “Can We Help” segment of Lost and Found is much better than what 7 is throwing up and most probably nine.

  7. the only true words that sum up this show..
    ‘Cancelled’ or ‘Axed’

this is just more reality crap!, can someone tell this stupid Channels..
Reality Shows have run thier course.. let it die already FFS!

  8. Let’s face it, networks have been doing this since television went to air. So it’s not exactly a new concept of copying off one another.

  9. o cameron i think you will find 9 does its fair share of copying aswell; animal emergency, and i hear they have more factuals for next year; they will prob be copied some how aswell. not to mention the fact that 7 has made the factuals popular, so i guess they’ve already copied 7 a bit.

anyway, anything 9 can do, 7 can do better (lately); today tonight, sunrise, news, morning show, i expect sunday night to follow suit.

  10. sorry cameron can i just reply to a few things.

    – FMF and BOTC is nothing like WDYTYA and COHK , WDYTUA is about tracing family trees back into history and FMF is about reuniting loved ones, wheras missing pieces looks almost identical to FMF with a few tweaks (soz about all the abbreviations)
    – a one hour current affairs program is too wide of a genre for 9 to bagz forever, and whats to say ch7 didn’t get their ideas for any other network in the whole world.
    – ramsay started out on 7
    – 9 will become a factual overload network next year, they have 4 on the way (i am assuming this is one) along with RPA, the gift, search & rescue, emergency 000, whats good for you.
    – and you forgot to mention that shortly after the sucess of bondi rescue/surf patrol, RSPCA animal rescue, DancingWTS, border security: 9 came out with deadly surf, animal emergency, dancing on ice and borderline – UK (all flops btw). atleast with this one they made an effort to change the title

i don’t think its fair to point the finger at a copying network

  11. Seems like a copy of Find My Family which was a copy of SBS’s Who Do You Think You Are. People are saying 9 is constantly coping 7 when in fact 7 is the main culprit. Sunday Night is a copy of 60 Minutes, Battle of The Choirs is a copy of Choir of Hard Knocks and 7 also happened to get a Gordon Ramsey show due to it’s success on 9 as well as trying to get Ramsey and Roberta Williams on Dancing With The Stars. Missing Pieces may seem like a copy but if 9 want to catch up to 7 in this department they need to copy a lot more.

At least Missing Pieces is not on a network that overloads itself with too many factuals. It’s joining 2 1/2 Men and CSI. Charlie Sheen should host Missing Pieces as that will get the high ratings lol.

  12. Oh god if FMF wasn’t bad enough now 9 is going to do a copy

Jayfunk: LOL it would not surprise me if 9 did something like that

Matt: I agree I don’t know how people watch FMF it is terrible

Nathan: you are right for some reason 7 do better factuals than 9

  13. as seanie said,

there is innocent broad genre copying ie. similar lifestyle shows, game shows, 60 mins vs. Sunday night. but there is no denying 9 has straight out copied 7’s idea here.

i’d expect many more moves like this from 9 in ’09 seeing that all the ideas they come up with flop; hole in the wall, power of 10, monster house just to name a few.

looks like ’09 will complete the factual revolution. i for one cannot picture watching them on 9 its such a 7 thing.

  14. People bag ten for some of their programming choices but just looking at this proves that seven and nine are just as bad. Copying that cringeworhthy show, find My Family (how do people watch that?), a terrible unoriginal choice.

  15. well no one can do factulas like 7, animal emergency with georgie parker never rated anywhere near the numbers that RSPCA did i expect this to do the same.

people aren’t stupid they can recognise a rip off especially as 9 will probably be looking at the same audience pool as FMF.

also this will not have the olympic promotion

  16. coming soon to channel 9, a show about a dog who’s puppies return to home as they cant make it on their own : Stacked to the Barkers!!

  17. Find My Family seems to be hugely popular amongst the older demographics. Virtually everyone I know over forty watches it and raves about the show. It seems to be a can-do-no-wrong concept for certains groups.

Richard, I think true emotion overwhelms appearance issues like those you described. Boguns know loss and emotion too you know.

  18. Ugh! I wonder if there will be any people under 60 watching FTA in a few years with an endless production of these types of shows.

  19. These types of shows, along with Today Tonight, are the only shows where true bogan Australian’s can get their faces on prime time TV.

I don’t understand how you can feel emotional about reuniting with someone who has no teeth, a mullet and a female mustache.

  20. oh God, Nine has to copy Seven again. Come on guys be original or get some people in with original ideas it’s getting really sad now.

  21. Why are Nine constantly taking ideas from other networks, changing one tiny part of them, and then re-badging them as their own? No wonder there is nothing to watch on Nine!
