Review sells format rights to US

Yesterday it was a Logie nomination. Now the Myles Barlow-hosted series has been picked up for US format rights.

review-mbYesterday it was a Logie nomination and now ABC’s  black comedy series Review has sold its format rights to the US. Not bad for a show that rolled along quietly on ABC2.

It has been optioned to Pangea Studios, the scripted division of RDF Media USA. The show has already premiered in Australia and features a fictional critic reviewing real-life experiences such as reconciling with an ex, working as a drug mule, and rating his sexual experiences, and rating them on a five-star scale.

The series will be launched by the ABC at upcoming MIPTV event in Cannes, with both completed Series One (6 x 30’) and format rights available.

“Our objective at Pangea is to find and adapt the most intriguing and unique formats in the world, and Review exemplifies that,” said Karrie Wolfe, Senior Vice President of RDF USA and Pangea.

“Its irreverent, dark humor pushes the boundaries in a way that’s different from what we’ve seen in the States.”

  1. Selling The Format: A delightful and satisfactory way of acknowledging the man hours and effort of constructing, writing and performing a comedy show like this – can pay off.

    4 Stars.

  2. This show is the reason I haven’t left the country yet… or killed myself. It proves that there is original, creative, scathing, black-hearted brilliance going on in the Australian television industry today (that isn’t made in Melbourne). If you ever need a spare writer, Phil – let me know. I’ve got a bit more time up my sleeve now that Hitler’s self-expired.

  3. Yes this was one reason why I’m happy we have digital – it may have been rolled out quietly on ABC2, but it deserves more than a logie. Sheer wit, and comedy brilliance. I find it funny that all the good Aussie comedy is on ABC now, a channel that used to be “just for the oldies.”
Speaking of great Aussie comedy, if you haven’t watched Lawrence Leung’s Choose Your Own Adventure, you should. Wednesday nights @ 9:30 on ABC1.
