Logie stars in ‘desperate’ dash for Gold

Adam Hills hands out how to vote Logie cards in Bourke Street Mall, in one of 8 clips that sees Gold Logie nominees send themselves up mercilessly.

hillsyTonight, you’ll see Adam Hills handing out how-to-vote Logie flyers in Bourke Street Mall. Hills’ Gold campaign is steered by fake ABC publicists.

The scenes form part of the specially-prepared clips for the Gold Logie nominees.

Each clip will humorously depict publicists from four networks while the 8 nominees cheerfully send up their own persona.

The ABC publicists will resemble university students wearing “Kevin 07” style t-shirts that plug “Denton 09 / Hills 09.”

Ian Smith plays it up as phony TEN publicists attempt to create a viral video for his Gold push. TEN’s team can be seen glued to their iPhones and Blackberrys, focussed on a Twitter and Facebook campaign.

The other clips feature the remaining nominees Rebecca Gibney, Rove, Simone Jade McKinnon, Kate Ritchie, Andrew Denton and Natalie Bassingthwaighte.

They are produced for the Logies by Charlie Pickering and Michael Chamberlin from The Mansion (The Comedy Channel). Chamberlin, Justin Kennedy and Declan Fey are writers while Dan Ilic (who co-created the infamous Freeview parody) is director.

Last year on The Mansion, Justin Kennedy and actress Kate McLennan developed a series of sketches that mercilessly sent up TV publicists dubbed “The Logies War Room.”

“If another person says to me it’s Kate Ritchie’s year, I’m gonna spew up,” said ‘PJ. Grieg’ (Kate McLennan).

They were so on the money that this year the team has been given a central role.

  1. Went to GNW filming yesterday and Julia Morris was getting the audience to vote for Adam (who was on the other team) during the commercial breaks.

    At one point Adam said to Julia “You have done more in the last 5 mins than the ABC has done all year”

  2. Just proves that even the Logies organisers know just how utterly meaningless the “gold” Logie is.

    The “vote for our star so we can add gold logie winner to the promos” campaigns on various channels have been shamefully embarrassing.

    As for the Logies tonight? I’ll be watching real television, thanks all the same. The stuff that lowest-common-denominator-obsessed Australian networks refuse to show.
