Panic stations as TEN dumps more shows

The cure or the cause? Trigger-happy TEN cuts out Rules of Engagement, Don't Forget the Lyrics, repeats of Glee and 30 minutes of Friday's 7PM Project. Updated.

engagement1It’s ‘Panic Stations” at Network TEN this summer as another raft of shows gets the chop from its schedules.

Rules of Engagement, Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Glee (repeats) have been dumped -even the extra 30 minutes of The 7PM Project has been ditched from Fridays, despite the network promising longer episodes through summer.

In their place are more Accidentally on Purpose, repeats of Malcolm in the Middle, new Simpsons and movies.

TEN’s trigger-happy programming follows it cutting Supernatural, Stargate Universe and a number of other shows.

The network may be reacting to a dwindling summer share, but it’s cure is also part of the symptom. Audiences respond to consistency and don’t like shows disappearing without explanation.

It’s not exactly a great way to start the year with your audience.

In fact, TEN’s programming seems to be so sidetracked, its amendments even incorrectly slated Simpsons episodes as “All New Simpsons” with “Homer the Whopper” noted as a “Season Premiere.” For the record it aired here in October. Note: TEN has since advised of an error and updated with new episodes for Mondays and Wednesdays beginning with S21E5 “The Devil Wears Nada.”

One hour editions of The 7PM Project appear to have been saved from trimming. Mondays are generally the show’s best night.

Amongst all the changes, TEN still hasn’t found room to reschedule Supernatural yet…

TEN’s changes will take effect from Thursday.

  1. I guess this sadly the beginning of the end for the 7pm project. I do want to say though, that I love this show, it’s a good finish to a long day, loving the hour eps so I’m disappointed about Friday. The only thin g I don’t like about the 7pm is the metro whip arounds.

  2. Just wondering who I complain to about the horrid timeslot changes
to “The Late Show With David Letterman”?!!!
Channel 10 proved they could put it on at a reasonable hour … for 1 whole week!!!
We don’t need all these repeats in between the news & Letterman.
    It’s simple (Hey, I’m blonde & I can figure this out!!!) 😉
Just put the News/Sports Tonight on after the 8:30pm program
    Then put Letteman on
Then put the repeats (if you must)

    See … it’s easy…. maybe it’s too easy!!! 😉

  3. Good god, it’s the forth day of a new year & already, are hitting the ‘Panic’ & ‘Schedule Change’ buttons. God I feel sorry for those poor poor buttons, years ago they used to get a rest every now & then although it seems now that the buttons get a bashing around by all of the channels without a chance to rest.

  4. Janey Said “I don’t understand why there are complaints about these latest changes”

Of course you don’t – its a criticism of Ten, afterall.

  5. I rarely watch Ten anymore. They lost me when they started repeating The 7pm Project, pushing back Letterman, then they put various repeats of Letterman on as well. Ten cannot see the possibilities in having another station that’s devoted to Entertainment, like Go! and 7TWO. Get your act together Ten, or you will lose more viewers. They could win the ratings, with the main channel, One HD and an Entertainment channel. First run programs on the main channel, and first run movies . The Entertainment channel could be devoted to repeats of shows, repeats of various repeated movies, (Happy Glimore) and niche shows like Stargate and Supernatural.

  6. The TEN Network seems to be going down the gurgler. Their strategy to place second-rate sport on their HD channel was foolish. Replacing ‘9am with David and Kim’ with probable advertorials will be yet another mistake. I really wonder if TEN would have enough watchable programming to fill another SD channel. TEN needs to stop focussing on youth, Nine’s vigorous, fresh GO! Channel is stealing that demographic handsomely. TEN should put some general entertainment back on a 10HD channel for the ‘older’ audience. A total revamp of the very tired TEN News, especially in Brisbane, would be a good start. When I hear that boring news theme, coupled with an equally boring studio set, I turn off, seriously.

  7. Why can’t TEN at least have the decency to warn people when they take off shows? I used to work in programming at Channel 7 years ago and we would have been shot if we were doing what 10 are doing now. If you can’t leave Supernatural alone we’ll just leave you alone.

  8. It’s a very sad state of affairs when TEN was my watched channel by far. Now I don’t trust it as far as I can throw Nine, and it is one of my least watched channels now by far. No wonder Seven consistently wins!

  9. This just shows that Channel Ten really is worse than Channel Nine. The Biggest Loser, Masterchef and Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation were just flukes.

  10. people, Channel TIN is a business with an objective to make money, and not to please bogans. Please join me in my 2 year hiatus from watching it. I look forward to not watching it for another year. Seriously. Their cliche ridden news service is the laughing stock of the industry. end the misery now.

  11. I laughed at Ten’s ads for House…’the show you used to love’. No one watches House here anymore including me, i just wait for it to come out on dvd. Ten was just voted best network in the TV Tonight awards, but i think the success they had this year got to their heads and now they just keep shooting themselves in the foot.

  12. Sad and pitiful Channel 10. You buy the license to a decent show like Supernatural and then replace it with dusty, boring movies. Yeah, that should rate better. Are you all children? Will you at least have the decency to let us know when or if the remaining episodes will be aired?

  13. I must say they are in need of some MasterChef. This is the only thing that can keep them a float in the Ratings competition. It appears that ever since the S1 of MasterChef Australia the network and along with some others assume that if it can’t draw cards then it will have to given a chop chop. I see some shows on TEN with potential, but the network just keeps on moving them, (not on a new day, but off!) They could put these on at a reasonable time. However I must say, The Simpsons getting 2 new eps a week is a shock. About 4-5 years ago Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson), said on Australian TV, that you only get about 2 decent episodes a week on FTV. I think this is decent for TEN, as they used to have New Simpsons eps, way after the Americans aired them, and some times new eps for say S17 would air when America is already in S18. Now The Malcolm in The Middle story is a carbon Copy of 2 1/2 Men. Eventually I assume 2010 will see the 7PM project take an F. The project will be like Bart Simpson’s test results. And so here comes the Carbon Copy of 2 1/2 Men. I also must add that they need to give Hugh Grant some sick leave or holiday if you will. He appears to be a ‘Screen-aholic; as he gets in more TEN movies and they are all based on romance and friendships. Another one in which I just hope they don’t remember is, Mean Girls. It will be a mean TEN in 2010 if they do so. Good on Glee for going. It’s not perfect and, I think people don’t want Sue Sylvester. They know what happens to her and what she did, it’s just silly so see her dark side again. Supernatural is un-natural to TEN. This one is has been pulled from so many Mondays on TEN, it’s like a supernatural thing that appears from no where, then disappears after a month. The Star-gate Universe is a new one for us. I think maybe we’re meant to have Si-fi shows on ABC HD, 1 and 2. TEN I must say have had the worst start to summer, to the year and decade thus far. If any more changes come, it will be a Crocemobuche like Pressure Test for 10 in 2010.

  14. Who is watching Malcolm? Please stop now. Nothing makes me flick channels quicker.

Meanwhile, tonight’s return of 7PM saw it even more schizophrenic than usual. I’ve given it a good chance, but it’s a new year, so I’m finally calling it a dead duck. Are they really going to keep it on air fighting for life when The Biggest Loser was winning that slot last year?

  15. Give Ten back to the older viewer, Go!’s done it’s job. I honestly think Ten’s new owners have taken the Canwest route, but Ten really needs now to remember what it once was, cheeky and successful, ground breaking Australian drama, comedy, family entertainment, committed to sport, where do we see Ten now? The exact same place where it was in ’89, when it became 10 TV Australia… Dump seriously… it’s never been taken less seriously, than has been taken now.

  16. Somehow I think GO! has accomplished its aim – to completely erode Ten’s core audience.

Ten hasn’t helped themselves either with their sitcoms – having sitcoms at 7.30 every weeknight is actually diluting the worth of these sitcoms – they’d be better off picking one night (say Wednesdays) and packing them all on there, and wheel out Monk or something else on the other nights. Right now I feel like if I want to see Accidently on Purpose or The Office – it don’t have to bust a nut to do it – so I feel free to surf the alternatives (mostly on cable) if they restrict it to once a week, people might feel more compelled to tune in.

  17. Channel 10 is a complete joke dumping these shows during non-ratings school holiday period. They look like panicked fools. No one will watch anything they have because by the time they put it on and commit to it, a true fan of any show has downloaded it. Gee whizz wonder why the shows don’t rate any more? And then they bump them all over the place from week to week, dropped here, moved there – ridiculous. Yes I am a Supernatural fan who is bitterly disappointed by the continued lack of commitment they give this show each year. I pity the Stargate fans – they got only 2 weeks, at least we got 6 eps – though broken of course. And look at the hype they gave Stargate, which actually did OK in week 1. It’s the thing I hate most about Network TV, their non-committal to shows. How can an audience ever find something and stay with it if it keeps moving? Also, what about timeshift ratings? I bet when those numbers start feeding through, some of these shows will be doing far better than Channel 10 gave them credit for. Oh well, it’s back to other means for me I guess, but I’d much rather watch it on my TV…bye bye Channel 10

  18. Just Go Away Channel 10.

    Your station sucks.
your crappy endless repeat movies suck.
you take of great stuff (SGU & Supernatural) for utter crap.
your target demographic are the most hated and aggravating in society.
your australia idol karaoke competition sucks.
    your hosts are crap.
    your news is crap.
Your contempt for the over 18 viewing audience makes you hated.
    your promos suck.
    you HD channel sucks.

You suck, i mean “Seriously”, just go away and don’t come back. They shoot horses don’t they.

  19. Channel 10 are a joke, you have just pi**ed off 500,000 that have been watching Supernatural consistently for 4 years. Nice move, you must have the collective IQ of a house brick. You stick About a Boy on, what 7 times in 18 months, you are laughable and the stations license should be removed. Time to go the way of the dinosaur channel 10.

You destroy BattleStar Galatica and now StarGate.

Apparently they only people they care about offending is 7-14 year olds. Little *****.

The station is a complete joke.
