It’s Roy and H.G (A.M.)

John Doyle and Greig Pickhaver have been recognised in today's Queen's Birthday Honours.

John Doyle and Greig Pickhaver -better known as Roy and H.G.– have been recognised in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Both have received an Order of Australia for services to the media as presenters and entertainers, and as supporters of charitable organisations.

”The great thing is if we’re ever on a ship and the captain dies, we take over,” Doyle told the Sydney Morning Herald. ”We can take over the captaincy of the vessel and do marriages, and I think we can do baptisms.”

For Pickhaver, the recognition won’t make him want to stop what he does. ”While I’m chuffed, I’m not about to stop things,” he said.

Doyle added: ”I don’t think it’s meant to be a handbrake on your life.”

Next stop Logie Awards?

Amongst media honourees are:

Companion of the Order of Australia:
Harold Mitchell (Mitchell Communication Group executive chairman) for contribution to the arts, health and education sectors and his support of humanitarian aid for Timor-Leste and indigenous communities.

Steve Bracks, former Victorian premier and now Chairman of ASTRA for his service to Parliament and the people.

Members of the Order of Australia
John Doyle and Greig Pickhaver for service to the media and as supporters of the United Nations Children’s Fund.

Bob Rogers, for service to the media as a radio broadcaster. Rogers hosted variety show The Bob Rogers Show for five years on the Seven Network.

  1. Congratulations boys!! I’ve been an avid watcher/listener since 1988 to these two wisest and funniest of men. Admittedly to appreciate them you have to listen for a while to ‘acquire the taste’, but once you look through the apparently irreverent and insane observations you see the message beneath. “Many a truth is spoken in jest” was a term almost invented for these guys.
Rooting King must be a proud horse today! Eat your heart out, Mark Webber.
