Compass moves to earlier slot for 2012

ABC religous programme Compass is moving in 2012, set to screen at the earlier time of 6.30pm Sundays, ahead of the 7pm News.

Presenter Geraldine Doogue said, “For years so many of our viewers have told us how much they love Compass, alas the catch-cry has always been, ‘But you’re on too late!’

“Now we’ve answered that call. Compass will kick off ABC1’s Sunday night line-up and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

“Compass was launched on ABC TV in 1988. It’s mission then, as now, to explore faith, beliefs, ethics and values in Australia and around the world.

“24 years on we’re still inviting viewers to make connections, and see the underlying sources by which people live their lives and make their commitments.”

The long-running show, recently recognised by UNAA Media Peace Awards, usually screens around 10pm Sundays but in recent weeks has endured some late changes.

Programs currently in production for next year include: ageing – specifically issues surrounding money, sex and death; the challenges facing the Catholic Church in Australia on the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council; cults; the surge in Hinduism in Australia and the personal stories of trail-blazing Muslim women.

Doogue will be revisiting women from Longreach, Melbourne and Sydney’s west who featured in the ‘Women’s Dinner series’.
