Deni Hines ruins Celebrity Apprentice

Deni Hines' tirades in Celebrity Apprentice were an abject lesson in ruining what has until now been a fairly spirited series.

“What do you do when you see a rabid dog? Do you poke it or do you leave it alone?” Deni Hines asked Jesinta Campbell on Celebrity Apprentice last night.

It would seem that many viewers watching the Reality show would have preferred if Nine had left Deni Hines alone, or preferably out of the series altogether.

Hines’ performance in front of the cameras was an abject lesson in ruining what has until now been a fairly spirited series.

Sure it’s dragged out its story points for too many episodes, it’s (successfully) skewed its cast into heroes and villains, and it’s wheeled out products and brands without much subtlety.

That’s all robust enough when there’s enough entertainment along the way.

When characters are simply playing up for the cameras, as Deni Hines and Max Markson did last night, the audience is entitled to cry ‘foul.’

Don’t insult us by padding out a 90 minute episode with phony bust-ups and lunatics who act like four year olds. At least Pauline Hanson was genuine with her friction. Even Jason Coleman’s ego has been believable. But Hines and Markson’s return added nothing to the game. They so hogged the cameras that I barely saw Shane Crawford do anything last night -and he hasn’t been eliminated like these two yet.

Talk about empty vessels making the most noise.

I also find it hard to believe that Mark Burnett would ever let an episode like last night’s go to air under his watch. His shows have been successful because they know when to hit a point, and when to move on.

Maybe Mr. Bouris should have fired the Producer.

How did editing did tirade after tirade into the show further the storytelling?

I got that ‘Deni = Bitch’ from the first exchange. In fact I got it from the promos that painted her as the Wicked Witch of the West.

Last night was so contrived we, as audience, were no longer able to suspend disbelief.

Sure it’s important to have a good villain, but if all they do is sour the fun …then what’s the point?

Deni Hines was dropped on her head as a baby, right? A lot……

leilamckinnon:
I’d rather have 2 Max Markson’s than 1 Deni

It’s quite possible deni hines may never work again. Wow.

cameron_adams:
Deni Hines: “I don’t do jingles” – is that because no one offers?

Amzini:
Deni Hines is ruining celebrity apprentice for me, she really is one horrid human being. TV off now

I’m trying to find words to describe the waste of space that IS Deni Hines… How was I ever a fan? She’s just vile!!!

I Have watched ALOT of reality tv :-/ (shame face) but Deni Hines may be the most abhorrent character I’ve ever seen, ever

Spicks and specks!! Relieve my Deni Hines related anger.

Deni Hines is THE WORST THING I have ever watched on television …

It’s weird to think on a show that had Pauline Hanson on it, that Deni Hines is actually the bad guy…

Supamcjazzy:
Why do they even bother putting Deni Hines on #CelebApprenticeAU she is not helping the show out in anyway!

  1. Deni Hines is a complete nutter! I feel sorry for her mother Marcia, having to watch her daughter behave like that. Her mother is the consumate professional and she has Real talent …….Deni !!
And Lara Bingle ……..OMG, what the hell is she all about?? ………..she deserves every ounce of critisism she gets, she is soooooooooooo dumb and if her head gets any bigger she will explode.

  2. Deni’s behaviour was disgraceful. i went back and re-watched the episode, and 9/10 comments were disparging, derogatory, defamatory and (in the workplace) bullying. In the words of my seven year old daughter, “why is that girl so nasty to everyone ?”. Kids say the darndest things ……

  3. Watching Deni Hines behaviour, she needs a straight jacket. Not entertaining at all. Gone off the program, will not watch it again. Any publicity is good, that is not publicity.
Unhappy soul, that she is, not a has been, but a never was.

  4. I’ve only seen the ads (because I don’t like reality shows at all)
but … there’s an ad where (I assume she’s talking about the model)
and her words could be taken as a threat.
Now, I liked Deni as a singer.
But I was totally shocked by that … and if she’s “worried about her brand”,
I’m afraid she’s the only one who is damaging it,
    with behaviour like that.

  5. Deni is a narcissist and a bully. I have been bullied at work by people (multiple) just like her for years. They have zero self awareness and an insatiable need to be better than everyone else, except they are not and will never ever see it.
As for her being ‘not as bad as she was portrayed’, she wasn’t portayed in anyway, her own behaviour has shown her as she is, there is no producton meddling here.
She is a selfish, narcissistic child and I feel embarrassed for her mother who has never been anything other than charming and entertaining.

  6. I remember seeing Deni Hines on Spicks and Specks some years ago. She was domineering. Not surprised she never returned.

  7. It’s strange to me that people watch reality t.v. these days to see something even further from the truth!

I hope Julia Morris wins, she is the only person who has charmed me with her playing style, as Pauline would say it really ‘resonitated’ with me.

  8. i disagree deni has not ruined CA she has made it absolutely must see TV. she even made Jason Coleman look like a nice normal guy last night. I worked with a guy for 10 years who had the exact same personality as Deni ie a huge chip on his shoulder. Poor Deni is not only ruining whatever career she may have left but also that of Marica Hines who seems to have spawned a devil child. PS well done to channel 9 promotions for the most entertaining promotions for all the next episodes

  9. I agree with most Deni is not a nice person. I remember seeing her on 20-1 and thought she was thoroughly unlikeable. Perhaps slightly exaggerated for tv but not by much.

  10. Horrible people are the bread and butter of reality TV. Remember the heiress who leaked her sex tape and her drug addict friend. The Armenian family who too leaked a sex tape, re-dramatized a DUI arrest for their cameras and just faked a marriage. Miami Ink starring the girl who thought it’d be clever to date Jesse James after he cheated on Sandra Bullock with a nazi. Think of shows like Airline, Airport, Hell’s Kitchen, Jon & Kate turned out great, six different spin-offs of Real Housewives, The Hills which spawned Speidi, The Jersey Shore… Geordie Shore………. Teen Mom, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Joe Millionaire, Big Brother of course and the show that is a microcosm for my arguement True Beauty. A TV show that unashamedly exploited horrible, vain and superficial people.

The producers of Celeb Apprentice will have emailed eachother your post thrilled about it. Deni Hines turned out to be a fantastic villian, easily hateable and entertainly so.

  11. “What do you do when you see a rabid dog? Do you poke it or do you leave it alone?”
    No you shoot it.

  12. I loved it when Jacinta said to deni “well you were fired”. Deni is a really unlikable person and completely lacks social awareness. Watching her on TV is like watching a car accident in slow motion.. i have to watch but its cringe all the way. The last episode – i just kept saying “really? can someone really be that blind and stupid?” Anyone think she’s a little ‘delayed’? Maybe mama martia had some ‘dropping’ mishaps circa 40 yrs ago?.

  13. smart producers behind this tv show. the show has created so much buzz and so much public reaction that it will definitely be around for a while.

surely when you watch tv you can see that things are scripted. did any of you take notice of the promos leading up to last night’s episode? where deni hines appears on a broom as a witch. she did exactly what she was told to do by the producers – ham it up big time. and right now on ACA there is a story about her return to celebrity apprentice. cross network promotion there you go.

commercial tv is getting more and more scripted and marketed.

    but…….

its still fun to watch. go deni – you are gorgeous!

  14. Actually, I thoroughly enjoyed the episode and I have much preferred it to the US version because they seem to have thrown in crazies rather than the super stage managed dramas. Yes, it went on and on, but I could have watched another hour. Honestly, I have no interest in holier-than-thou celebrities banging on about charity. We all know this is just a gig for them. Deni and Max were superb casting.
In Deni’s defence she was actually being combative about the challenge, Max was just fooling around like a moron and brought exactly nothing to the project.

  15. I agreed with this article completely at first, but then I did realise that despite my strong feeling of absolute Resent towards Deni, it is quite entertaining. At the same time, however, I often find myself wanting to jump through the TV to strangle her. From what I’ve gathered through Celebrity Apprentice (which probably isn’t entirely accurate, but even out of context you can tell her attitude is rotten) Deni actively looks for trouble. This might sound like a passive aggressive remark towards her, but she really needs to reassess her behaviour. She’s poison to herself and the people around her.

  16. This show lost all credibility when Pauline was fired over Jason- he has lost 4 challenges and Borous says he is saved becuase over the course of the show he was the better performer! It was obvious the producers kept Coleman on bec ause he was the “evil” one and Pauline’s humour had run it’s course. I don’t mind being manipulated to a point but this show is too contrived and controlled. The person evicted is whoever they think the audience won’t miss or worse – are indifferent too (Lisa Curry case in point). At the end of the show – Jason won’t win becasue he is unpopular and they won’t let him win- not that he deserves to but my point is it will go to a “popular” choice- my guess is Julia or Shane will win- they are “safe” bets…

  17. Deni Hines is a nobody, cashed in on her mother’s name. If she is on the box, I simply turn channel.

  18. Jesinta i was impressed with. She stayed calm and still stood up to Deni. When Deni worked with Shane she was fine. I think she has an issue with young people. Even Deborah was saying how Deni just kept going on about the doll. She is mean though. I remember when she sang amazing grace a few years ago at the carols and just wrecked it. Im ot sure her music career would have been as successful if her last name wasnt hines. Also no wonder she had 2 failed marriages. How could anyone live with her.

Max isnt rude or mean he just doesnt listen. When he and Julia were barking like dogs out the window it was so immature but so funny at the same time. And also when he kept going on about the ice cream.

But my issue is they are put into 2 teams but instead of one person winning the cash the team should win. Surely Mr Bouris can put the cash up for a team rather than just picking out the best performed person from the winning team.

  19. Is Deni seeing a phychiatrist? If not…. Why not?

I think we should have a whip around and make an appointment for a woman that is so aggressive and unable to listen to anyone other than herself she needs help ….. delusional is an understatement! Let’s get the dictionary out for some superlatives ie:- arrogant, rude, objectionable, self-absorbed, talentless, argumentative ….. .. tick those boxes Deni you have them all!

Be a team player!!! Are you kidding…. she has no compreshension of the description.

  20. Poor Marcia. She seems like such a down to earth, humble woman. How did she produce that monster?
