Deni Hines ruins Celebrity Apprentice

Deni Hines' tirades in Celebrity Apprentice were an abject lesson in ruining what has until now been a fairly spirited series.

“What do you do when you see a rabid dog? Do you poke it or do you leave it alone?” Deni Hines asked Jesinta Campbell on Celebrity Apprentice last night.

It would seem that many viewers watching the Reality show would have preferred if Nine had left Deni Hines alone, or preferably out of the series altogether.

Hines’ performance in front of the cameras was an abject lesson in ruining what has until now been a fairly spirited series.

Sure it’s dragged out its story points for too many episodes, it’s (successfully) skewed its cast into heroes and villains, and it’s wheeled out products and brands without much subtlety.

That’s all robust enough when there’s enough entertainment along the way.

When characters are simply playing up for the cameras, as Deni Hines and Max Markson did last night, the audience is entitled to cry ‘foul.’

Don’t insult us by padding out a 90 minute episode with phony bust-ups and lunatics who act like four year olds. At least Pauline Hanson was genuine with her friction. Even Jason Coleman’s ego has been believable. But Hines and Markson’s return added nothing to the game. They so hogged the cameras that I barely saw Shane Crawford do anything last night -and he hasn’t been eliminated like these two yet.

Talk about empty vessels making the most noise.

I also find it hard to believe that Mark Burnett would ever let an episode like last night’s go to air under his watch. His shows have been successful because they know when to hit a point, and when to move on.

Maybe Mr. Bouris should have fired the Producer.

How did editing did tirade after tirade into the show further the storytelling?

I got that ‘Deni = Bitch’ from the first exchange. In fact I got it from the promos that painted her as the Wicked Witch of the West.

Last night was so contrived we, as audience, were no longer able to suspend disbelief.

Sure it’s important to have a good villain, but if all they do is sour the fun …then what’s the point?

Deni Hines was dropped on her head as a baby, right? A lot……

leilamckinnon:
I’d rather have 2 Max Markson’s than 1 Deni

mr_ed_phillips:
It’s quite possible deni hines may never work again. Wow.

cameron_adams:
Deni Hines: “I don’t do jingles” – is that because no one offers?

Amzini:
Deni Hines is ruining celebrity apprentice for me, she really is one horrid human being. TV off now

I’m trying to find words to describe the waste of space that IS Deni Hines… How was I ever a fan? She’s just vile!!!

easybee:
I Have watched ALOT of reality tv :-/ (shame face) but Deni Hines may be the most abhorrent character I’ve ever seen, ever

eloquentembrace:
Spicks and specks!! Relieve my Deni Hines related anger.

Deni Hines is THE WORST THING I have ever watched on television …

Headloc:
It’s weird to think on a show that had Pauline Hanson on it, that Deni Hines is actually the bad guy…

Supamcjazzy:
Why do they even bother putting Deni Hines on #CelebApprenticeAU she is not helping the show out in anyway!

  1. I don’t care what anybody says….last night’s episode was bloody entertaining!! I loved Deni Hines bitchy nature….it made great television! One cannot complain about this show especially after 5 seasons of that celluloid fodder: “Big Brother” were allowed on the air!!!

  2. David your way off. Glad your not making tv and just writing about it. What would you have liked? 90mins of Jesitia reading out the menu? Is it the procedure of the tasks we want to watch or the drama that comes up in the process of it all?

  3. I think she should remake the song “I’m a Bitch”. It would be a big hit like when that Asian guy from American Idol sang “She Bangs”, except he was better.

  4. Deni Hines made me cringe and as for Max – he’s a waste of space. He’s not funny or talented in any way. Actually, they make a good pair!

  5. hahaha this is a great show!!! Love it ~ the promos are hilarious. Deni as elpheba!!! muwahahahaha

  6. If you ask me… Deni Hines is reality television Gold… I mean – just look at the responses here and twitter was pumping last night during this show, we all love to hate someone – I say let her be… she should release a single now and cash in on the extra attention it would get…..

  7. Top marks to Jesinta for showing how much more mature she is than its-all-about-me Deni…I did think Deni was just egotistical, immature and narcissistic but now I think she might actually be unhinged…

  8. @Alex, I think you are on to something. I wouldn’t watch it but I reckon it would rate its pants off. Only a matter of time until a network tries a version of Karadashian.

  9. I really do feel like a bad person inside when I laughed out loud several times last night hearing some of the stuff coming out of the Hines gob, given that she has gone from being a difficult diva (something I witnessed working in the music industry in Sydney in the 80s and 90s) to truly, truly delusional. Best line: Never interrupt a creative person. Gold …

@Dave, I remember hearing mutterings back then about some of those music video shoots …

  10. “It’s weird to think on a show that had Pauline Hanson on it, that Deni Hines is actually the bad guy…”

That actually is a good point.

  11. David you’re questioning why Mark Burnett would let this go to air? Have you watched any episodes from the Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice? Joan Rivers getting into a fight with some Playboy bunny and let’s not forget that Real Housewife of Atlanta woman fighting with Latoya Jackson.. this brand of show loves a cat fight..

Besides I loved Nine’s promo with Deni as Elphaba… as much as people hate Nine… you have to admit they know how to do a good tv show promo..

  12. Vladivostok: I’ve watched just about every episode of CA and while I’m more a fan of a succinct show, I’ve still been able to enjoy most of it. Villains absolutely have their place in Reality but I didn’t enjoy last night, which is what I’ve reflected here. But I am only one opinion.

As for attribution issues, it’s wasn’t just yesterday and one story. As it’s becoming more frequent I felt it was time to comment. Will be happy for the silly season soon.

  13. What’s with all the angry opinion today, David? Not happy with Celeb Apprentice, not happy with lack of attribution!

  14. up until this week i though hines was the judge from Australian Idol, but its her daughter first time i have ever heard of her

P.S. the singing was that good as she was boasting non-stop

  15. My 59 year old mother who never swears told me before celebrity apprentice started that Deni Hines was a self absorbed bitch and she would ruin the show. She was half right.

  16. David this is Crap! At least it makes it something to watch. Apart from Julia Morris the other three are boring as bat shit. Im sure David you were one of those people that hated big brother contestants that had personality and then we were left with a house of no personality for 6 weeks.

  17. Oh and another thing with bully Deni she was all but threatening to hit Jacinta by saying she wouldn’t be able to model again after she’d finished with her. So not only a bully but violent too

  18. It was very entertaining, over the top, car crash reality tv. Deni is and always has been a prima donna and a loudmouthed bitch.

  19. I agree with Em. Are you mad ? It was reality TV gold ! And I think Deni really is as vile as she appears. You can’t create those scenes .
