TEN is officially out of ideas -here comes Devil Wears Prada, again!

James Warburton needs to talk to TEN's Programming department about lazy recycling of their movies, pronto.

TEN has just scheduled The Devil Wears Prada -again.

It’s scheduled for 8:30pm tomorrow night.

TEN played the movie in January, and before that October, July, and umpteen times before it.

Newsflash. We are not in non-ratings.

Does TEN think so little of its audience that it can’t offer them something better?

If TEN programmers are switching off creative programming, it’s time for viewers to respond and just switch off TEN.

  1. The one consistent element at Ten over the years is that David Mott remains the programming boss and Ten has steadily declined. That Ten management was unable to arrest the gradual decline of Neighbours was inexcuseable. The only way out of this hole is a management change combined with a heavy investment in new Australian production from entertainment through to some bold “event” style Australian drama. If this isn’t done then Ten will just wither away. If it is done then there is a real prospect that Ten can bounce back fairly quickly particularly if it also gets some winners from its American output deals. But this must come from the top. TV executives earn far too much money to stick their heads up and champion something new. Far preferable to keep your head down as it takes many years before the chop comes.

  2. What everyone else wrote +1

Even if David Mott isn’t the one who actually pulls the pieces of paper out of the hat, he is still ultimately responsible for Ten’s programming, and this is laughable. It doesn’t even bug me any more as I am beyond caring.

  3. David Mott definitely needs to be given his marching orders and pronto – he has run that network into the ground.

And they appeared to have woken up to themselves a couple of years ago when they developed then-named The 7PM Project, to try to undo years of damage in that slot via reality television; and there they are again, filling the slot with the same bile they were apparently trying to overcome.

Wake up to yourselves, TEN. Mr Mott just throws crap anywhere to see if it will stick, problem is, a lot of it is just the same old crap. And the constant switching of its News and The Project; they almost had it, once. The News @ 6:00pm, only it needs to be stand-alone, with either a game show or lifestyle show before it and The Project @ 6:30pm, only it needs to be 30mins and not required on Sunday; nobody wants to commit themselves to an hour of this, when they can get a half-hour offering on the opposition and then entertainment from 7:00pm.

Oh, and do you actually remember Neighbours? Do you even bother to promote it on your main channel? No, it can fend for itself, can’t it?

And from 7:30 onward? I really think you must be on auto-pilot, little or no thought seems to go into programming any night of the week, simply a disaster. And this is me, your number one fan who has now lost all hope.

Must I say it again? Ditch David Mott – now.

  4. OK, I liked ‘Prada’ the first time… maybe enough to have watched it a couple more times… but c’mon TEN! Really…!? Again…!!

Surely TEN could just play a couple of NZ series in that time slot… cheap and they could do with the drama points! Anything else would have to be better than the same movie every eight weeks…

  5. Ten must have hundreds of movies that they have the rights to show, i do know only 9 and 7 have the rights to most recent movies but Ten still have alot to show. I was happy last night 28 weeks later was in hd on 1.
One hd is a good place for hd movies and they should show more like the hostels or saws or final destinations

  6. And when the ratings people come out Saturday and claim that 100,000 watched the movie I will know for sure that the ratings in Australia are pure fiction.

  7. They must’ve finally wore out their old Beta SP copy of Back to the Future!

Was it a late change? What dropped out?

Might be just a bad case of back-up programming.

  8. Ten should look at putting on regular shows like it did in 2009. Maybe Friday should be Law and Order night. Ten also have The Finder and maybe Hawaii 5 0 could be a Friday show. We are still waiting on the last few episodes of Medium as well. Movies repeated so often will not rate.

To me these movies do not matter as I watch Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries on ABC1 and it is great.

  9. I watch 7TWO on Friday nights….
@ Belinda ..I have never watched this movie either….my sister gave me the DVD…maybe TENs constant reruns had something to do with her decision to rid herself of it….*G*

  10. OK, I get it that TEN might not have much revenue at the moment, which in turn means no money for new content. What I don’t get is why they insist on repeating this over and over again. Do they not have the rights to other movies? Don’t they have other programs, movies or whatever that have been shown far less than this? Is it just that they simply don’t care what they are offering to viewers? Because if that is the case, then I don’t see myself bothering to tune into anything TEN has to offer.

  11. Wow…Well that is probably the strongest editorial comment critical of a network that I can remember David making. Well said you are spot on.

My advice to the 10 network would be to save money and just close down on a Friday night, no one is gonna watch so just give up and save the dollars…

  12. well they only have rights to 2 companies (Fox and Paramount) but surley they could air something they haven’t aired in many years!! or even airing Fox movies that Seven once had, as they don’t have the rights to those now. but Eleven do that more often than Ten. at least make Fridays ‘Premiere’ movie night!

the thing is that this has happened a lot in the past, and will continue to do so. not a whole lot you can do about it. if your sitting at home on a friday night complaining about the same old movies they play, how about getting out of the house? 😉

  13. Has anyone tried pitching them an idea for a series – scripted or otherwise, lately? Just send me one page they say! Seriously. They disregard their suppliers of content in the same way they insult the potential consumers of their content. The once fun, edgy, risk-taking network has been reduced to TDWP on a loop. Where’s the Australian drama offering this year – it’s March already James, nearly April. How can they meet the drama quota without Neighbours?

  14. I think TEN would benefit from going on indefinite hiatus and simply building up the network again. Re-brand it, get new programmers, new faces for the network and just start again. It is such a mess that I cant even bother tuning in anymore. And its such a shame considering that their watchable shows like TBL, Bondi Vet/Rescue, and TAYG get shafted and rate poorly. Even Shaun Micallef has had a stab at them.

  15. The Ten Network’s chief executive James Warburton has described the broadcaster’s chief programming officer David Mott as “the best in the business”.

If that is the best in the business – then they need all the help they can get!

  16. We’re in that period between mass broadcast entertainment and digital personal entertainment. It’ll only get worse for the broadcastors as internet speeds increase.
I’ve given up on broadcast ages ago. I much prefer to go online and hunt down a classic old 1950s b-grade sci-fi film and watch that then sit through the same “hit movie” for the 23rd time.

  17. @Rutzie so true! I was just thinking that. HP does get repeated a fair bit.

I have no idea what TEN could put on instead. Maybe they should run a poll on their site asking what you want to see on a Friday night?
