Kevin Spacey is behind a new political drama that is being described as Downton Abbey in the White House.

His production company Trigger Street, which he shares with Dana Brunetti (House of Cards, The Social Network, Captain Phillip, Fifty Shades of Grey), has closed a first-look production deal with FOX 21 and 20th Century FOX TV Studios.

The first project to fall under the new deal is the previously announced political drama The Resident, based on Kate Andersen Brower’s novel The Residence. It explores the relationship between White House residence staff and various first families spanning several administrations.

“Kevin and I are always looking to align Trigger Street with entities that understand what we expect to accomplish and how to maximise all resources to produce the best content possible,” Brunetti said. “Our past and current projects demonstrate how we do things differently and partner with who we feel are the best at what they do. Trigger Street and FOX have the makings of a powerful team, and we look forward to our upcoming projects.”
