More speculation on Celebrity MasterChef…

Rumours ramp up on 10 reheating its kitchen once again.

There is further speculation today that Celebrity MasterChef is returning to 10.

The Australian reports it will return in Q4 after the network secretly commissioned it last month. It speculates on names such as Lara Bingle and Julie Bishop in the kitchen mix.

The return for the spin-off was first teased by judges during a radio interview last year.

With ratings down on 2020 it would be a bold decision to return the show and potentially dilute the brand but 10’s options are presumably limited in terms of formats and available production outfits.

It has previously confirmed there is another show still to be announced for Q4.

Earlier this year Head of Programming Daniel Monaghan told TV Tonight, “Junior MasterChef was a one-off for the pandemic. I don’t think that will say we’ll never do Junior again, but it’s not slated for this year. We will have something else at the back end where Junior was sitting -TBC in terms of announcements.”

Celebrity MasterChef previously screened on 10 in 2009 with Michelle Bridges, Peter Rowsthorn, George Negus, Wendy Harmer, Josh Thomas, Kirk Pengilly, Alex Perry, Indira Naidoo, Rachael Finch and winner Eamon Sullivan.

Update: Now confirmed here.

  1. No, No, No! This is what almost killed the show 10 years ago. Ten may get a short term gain by filling a programming gap at the end of the year, but risks long term pain by killing off the format altogether due to viewer fatigue from all the Masterchef iterations.

  2. I was actually hoping for something like Shark Tank or Undercover Boss, or if they really wanted to go big, they could bring back X Factor again and build on momentum of Masked Singer/C7’s Voice…

Celebrity MasterChef is nice, but I think it’d work much better closer to the start or middle of the year (as opposed to the end).

  3. Dr Chris, Julia Morris…they’re celebrities…let’s see what they can do with rice & beans…& i do love them…met them both & beautiful people.

  4. I watched Celebrity MasterChef in 2009 (after falling in love with S1 of the show proper) and watched all the way through, it was actually really good, addictive, I recall it rated very well too (even if not as high).

  5. 10 has come up with some interesting formats or they risk neing relevant. Personally l still think they need to have prime time shows start at 7pm. Like in the old days of BB.
