Filming wraps on Barons for ABC

Sean Keenan, Ben O’Toole, Jillian Nguyen, Hunter Page-Lochard feature in ABC's 2022 surf drama.

Filming has wrapped on upcoming ABC surf drama Barons.

Set in the 1970s hedonistic world of surfing and the cutthroat culture of entrepreneurship, the 8 part series features Sean Keenan (Puberty Blues, Glitch) as “Trotter” and Ben O’Toole (Halifax: Retribution) as “Snapper”, best friends turned bitter rivals going head-to-head to build their billion-dollar surf empires. Jillian Nguyen (Clickbait) stars as Trotter’s wife and business partner, “Tracy”.

Joining them are Hunter Page-Lochard (Fires), George Pullar (Fighting Season), Lincoln Younes (Grand Hotel), Sophia Forrest (Ride Like a Girl), Vivienne Awosoga (Wentworth), Nicholas Burton (Pieces of Her), Karina Banno (Reckoning), Kick Gurry (Edge of Tomorrow), Catherine Van-Davies (Hungry Ghosts), Alexander England (Offspring) newcomer Megan MacKenzie,and British-American actor Ione Skye (Arrested Development).

The Fremantle series drew some headlines whilst filming during Sydney lockdown but navigated strict COVID protocols to complete the shoot.

Set up director is Shawn Seet (The Code, Storm Boy), joined by Fadia Abboud (Here Out West), with surf director Taylor Steele (Momentum, Momentum Generation) capturing all the surf action.

Barons will screen in 2022.

Barons tells the story of a surf-crazed group of hippy friends who turn their backs on the world in search of their ideal patch of surfing paradise. Little do they know that their desire for ultimate freedom and the perfect wave will take them from the beach to the boardroom, creating billion-dollar empires. But in selling their surfing dream to the world, these best friends will become fierce rivals and the question for this found family is – once you sell paradise can you ever get it back again?
