Protest banner flies over I’m a Celebrity UK camp

Brits fund a protest aimed at UK politician and former Health Minister in reality show filming in NSW.

A huge banner has flown over the I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! campsite near in Dungay,  NSW, near Murwillumbah this week, demanding UK politician Matt Hancock leaves the series.

Organised by non-profit British lobby group 38 Degrees, the protest was directed at the poltiician who was the Health Minister during the height of the pandemic, but also broke the government’s own lockdown rules.

He has received a backlash since it was first reported he was due to appear as an intruder, for “cashing in” on the status he earned during the pandemic. The MP for West Suffolk also lost the Conservative Party whip when he signed up for the show.

The small aircraft jetted above the camp site with a massive 35 metre banner that read: “Covid bereaved say get out of here!”

A spokesperson for Hancock told Metro.co.uk that Hancock continues to support the UK’s Covid inquiry.

ITV declined to comment on the protest or on allegations that production staff had contacted the authorities to attempt to file a complaint.

  1. This year is the first time I have watched the UK version. Ant and Dec are very funny. Boy George really dislikes Matt and shows it but is nice to his face. The other contestants have put lots of hard hitting questions to Matt about his political decisions regarding Covid and personal life. I had to Google him so I would understand all the dislike towards him. It is very interesting. The public keep voting Matt in to do the challenges (except once) which is getting a bit mundane. My favourite is Mike Tindall. What a nice man he seems to be. They are lucky the weather has been very kind to them so far.

  2. ITV has certainly splurged the cash this year, reportedly £400k for Matt Hancock and £800k-plus for Boy George, however with the series attracting huge audiences and topping the UK television ratings (12.3million for its opening show), it will be more than content with its star signings as it counts the ad revenue.
