Logie Awards 2023: winners

Gold for Sonia Kruger. Plus wins to Colin from Accounts, The Twelve, Heartbreak High, Home & Away, HYBPA?, Travel Guides, MasterChef.

Sam Pang has opened the 63rd TV Week Logie Awards at The Star in Sydney kicking off with a video of former hosts including Rove McManus, Steve Vizard, Andrew Denton, Wendy Harmer and Shaun Micallef.

‘I’m the first host of the Logies to be half and half… half Channel Seven and half Channel 10. Let’s be honest, it’s just great to have an Asian on Channel Seven who didn’t try to smuggle a bird through Border Security.” he said.

There were jokes at the expense of Karl Stefanovic, Rolf Harris, Tom Gleeson and Married at First Sight.

“On behalf of everyone here tonight, I would like to welcome you to your last ever Logies,” he said to the MAFS table.

Pang easily won over the room with his gentle jokes and a nod to the Gold nominees (and denied he was joining I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here).

Sonia Kruger walked home with the Gold after Seven poached the Logies from Nine, but nobody can deny her hard work across three shows, Dancing with the Stars, The Voice and Big Brother, arguably a win long overdue.

The night was otherwise a victory for Foxtel with a Hall of Fame induction for the late Brian Walsh, plus three wins for Colin from Accounts and The Twelve, dominating Comedy and Drama categories.

  1. Was just wondering David, where is/was the Categories for Most Popular Sports Program, Most Popular Factual Program, Most Outstanding Comedy Program, Most Popular Childrens Program, & Most Popular/Outstanding Light Entertainment Satire Program??
I remember they used to have them, Logies from Bad to Worse!!

And David do you go to The Logies, I have no idea who can go & how to.!?

    Thanks.!

  2. Also very impressed with Thomas Weatherall’s acceptance speech. Didn’t seem to awkwardly waffle as some more experienced winning talent did. Noticed both he and Brooke, backed up wins for their respective categories from the AACTAs too.

  3. Usually I find the popular category winners to be undeserving but this year they seemed quite reasonable (except for the obligatory H&A win). Maybe the voting system was fairer.

It was the “outstanding” that I sometimes found perplexing: The Cheap Seats? Over Gruen, Legomasters or Hard Quiz – all far superior and clever? Also many in the outstanding category for programs rewarded for hot political topics, not necessarily the quality of the program.

As in other years, the categories was a hot mess. What is “entertainment”? Aren’t they nearly all entertainment? I particularly noticed “Alone” being in the category for documentary, whereas it was a competition show (what others call Reality). A couple of shows nominated in multiple opposite categories.

Channel 7 news (and other sources) said voting was open until 7.30pm, yet the voting site was closed when I tried at 6.20pm (on AEST). Weird.

Best part: Kate Miller-Heidke, by a mile.
