Big Bother as Tim Dormer re-enters reality series

Putting Tim Dormer in the BB house so soon is a bad idea.

2014-09-20_0213Well this idea just reeks of desperation.

2013 Big Brother winner Tim Dormer will enter the house tomorrow and it’s not clear how long he will stay.

Dormer told News Corp producers phoned him yesterday “asking if I had plans for the weekend” and he got on a plane to the Gold Coast.

“We’re going to play (my length of stay) by ear. Who knows — maybe they’ll all hate me and vote me out.”

He will also be Head of the House and assigned a series of tasks including telling the housemates they will no longer be pairs after the first eviction (no surprises there, it was bound to go sooner or later like a Survivor merge).

But inserting Dormer in the house is a bad idea this early in the series. The show isn’t even 2 weeks old yet.

It sounds like Producers don’t have faith in the current cast. They should be allowed to create their own season, not live in the shadow of another. We need to be peeling back the layers of their personalities not shifting focus to someone who we already know.

Dormer is also going in with the full knowledge of how housemates are perceived on the outside.

He also knows one of the contestants, Jake, a former housemate.

If he went in overnight mid-season maybe it could be likened to a celebrity visit. But this is way too early to be propping up storylines with a personality as big as Dormer.

  1. What the??
I like Timmy – one of my favourite BB winners but as others have said, way too soon.
Reeks of desperation but I guess it will momentarily brighten up a desperately dull house.

  2. It will be interesting to see if he acknowledges that guy that’s his flat mate or pretend not to know him. I guess that depends on what Big Brother’s instructions are.

  3. What next they going to put Tully back in the house…as I said in one of the ratings updates, I was a watcher of both Big Brother and The Block before. Now with the way these two shows are manufacturing drama I have given up on both, too many stunts and twists taking away from what the shows should be.

  4. I agree with @alvar… the lack of adult content and no live updates paired with the late timeslot for a so called “Family Friendly” show is really turning fans of the show off. The ratings in the 2nd week are proof of that.

In saying that tho I still watch it faithfully every night waiting and hoping for it to improve. I think Tim going into the house will inject some much needed fun/trouble into the show! #can’twait

  5. A stunt like this won’t deliver a long term ratings gain to the show. Viewers are screaming for more mature content, less fabricated storytelling and live updates. Its painfully obvious why the show is struggling this year.

That being said, the show is so boring this year that I am looking forward to Tim’s return.

  6. I don’t have words for how ridiculous I find this idea (well the words I do have aren’t suitable for TV Tonight audiences 😛 ). Obviously this is a publicity stunt, but what a poor one at that. 1 week in and they are already trying to shake things up when really all they have to do is open up the story telling by offering some background info into the participants and their experiences and not just relationship garbage. When I see the story lines of Travis & Aisha and Sky & Jake all I think about is Jamie & Katie (most probably not the right names) back on TEN when the majority of the daily shows was just them hooking up. For a family-friendly brand it’s definitely not living up to it.

  7. To early like David said we need to see more of the current housemates I couldn’t stand Tim anyway in my opinion he was the second worst winner ever jamie from 2006 being the worst ever

  8. Talk about desperation, it would certainly continue to put me off watching it, can’t stand the guy.
Just let the people be so they can relax and stop playing up to the cameras. I watched 5 mins last just for the sake of it, and there was one guy checking him self out in the mirror while getting dressed and skipping to the bathroom camping it up about how he loves his outfit. That is not natural behavior.

  9. I assume they’re doing this to “win ratings” well… they’ve lost a viewer.

I’m finding it so much effort catching up on episodes I missed, now I’m just not gonna bother anymore. I’ll watch Evictions maybe but until this guy leaves I’m done. Which is a big statement considering I’ve watched this show every week for 11 seasons.
