Late List

“7:30 means 7:30 not 7:38!”

Tired of your favourite TV show starting late? Now you can name and shame them.

TV Tonight‘s Late List will use crowd-sourcing to detail the shows and the networks that never stick to the clock.

Just enter the information into the fields below with as much info as possible.

In the section marked “Advertised Time” you should complete at least ONE field:

  • the time it was advertised in an on-screen Electronic Program Guide
  • the time it was published in a Print guide such as newspaper or magazine
  • the time it was listed in an Online guide (website / App)
  • or the time you saw it advertised in a Promo that ran on the network itself.

This info will be tallied for results which will be published later.

Once you have submitted an entry, you are also invited to leave a Comment below.

The Late List will run as a site trial until the end of the ratings year with a view to remaining a site feature if it proves successful.

  1. what Nik C said…

The most annoying aspect is that the ABC is now one of the worst offenders, where for many years, right up to only a matter of months ago, you could (by and large) set your watch by their EPG.

We’re not talking small discrepancies either, a number of times I’ve seen QI start 6 or 7 minutes late and the late screening of Wonders Of Life last week was a full 10 minutes late. That’s with an EIT updated less than a couple of hours beforehand.

  2. So Footy Classified tonight. Scheduled for 10.30. EPG was updated to 10.43. It started at 10.59. Channel Nine you suck. Seriously free to air tv in this country is an absolute joke that this is allowed to happen, and that the networks think it’s ok.

And can this please shut up those people that argue as long as the EPG is updated, then starting late is ok. Even when the EPG is updated, it starts more than 15 minutes after the updated time.

  3. Nice of Nine to not only run 2.5 Men and Anger Management well over 20 minutes late last night, but they tried to hide their crime by adjusting the EPG an hour or two beforehand.

Nine, the EPG is supposed to be accurate 7 days in advance. We live with barely one day of accuracy because we have little choice, but now you’re just insulting our intelligence.

  4. The Morning Show runs persistently late, with Sunrise always finishing 5-10 minutes late. I know this is not that late, but it occurs every single morning, except, I must note when The Morning Show is on hiatus during the summer period.

  5. Can anyone explain why programs run late all the time? I don’t get it!!

Do they not realise they are crucifying their programs with the constant late showing of them?? With the internet and recording of shows, who needs to watch them when the networks insist.

I for one do not watch anything scheduled for 9.30pm any more. 9.30 really means 9.45-50pm and then double episodes are thrown in at the last moment. Seven did this with Smash. Bought the DVD and loved the series, but would never have given the show a glance on air.

All networks do the same, but at least Seven tends to give them a go. Not Nine; shows are pulled before you know it. Ten doesn’t even get a look in. Thankfully we are spoilt in this country with the ABC and SBS.

  6. Yes sorry a typo 8:52pm PTTR. That is what is in the EPG.

They will just edit, or even re-edit, MKR to fit what they want to do. They sit down with the per minute ratings and try to maximise suitable eyeballs watching ads. The idea being to get people watching your show, or if not at least recording it, and skipping your competitors shows.

For a couple of weeks 9 & 10 tried to start shows closer to 8:30pm hoping viewers would start watching their shows and stick with them. That was a false hope and as Ten’s ratings dropped and Nine gets more desperate to keep in touch with Seven, they are starting shows later. And Seven has responded by stretching MKR more and pushing their low rating 9:45pm shows back.

It won’t stop without regulation. The free market solution is that the viewers buy 2 DVRs or watch shows online, and the FTA networks go bust because no one is watching their ads.

  7. 9 & 10 tried starting shows close to 8:30pm hoping to get viewers interested in their shows before 7’s started. But it appears that starting shows later and getting more viewers flicking over after other shows finish is a better strategy, because that is what they are both doing this week.

So shows are getting later — Channel 7 has listed PTTR for 9:52pm tonight.

We no longer need a late list because everything is late.

  8. As if its not bad enough to miss the end of shows, now my recordings are failing because I can’t record more than 2 and the run over means something has to give. Are you getting any response from the networks that they are actually seeing this as a problem they need to do something about David?

  9. I’m glad this is here and I wish it wasn’t needed. There’s one problem I see with this section. I presume that most people report the prime time shows. So wouldn’t it be easier for them if the default setting for the time was “PM” rather than “AM” . Is it possible? I assume if someone accidentally mixed the two up you compensate. Especially when there can be so many times to fill out. Seems like an easy mistake to make.

  10. My Biggest Gripe is with the entire 7 Network always cutting the end Credits of witch 7Two is the biggest offender if anybody knows why they do this please let me no

  11. So at about 8.20 tonight during MKR Seven popped up an ad saying “Revenge starts in just 36 mins.” I’m not sure how they do maths at Seven, but that doesn’t equal an 8.45 start as has been advertised for weeks.
Then at 8.40 they play an ad saying Revenge returns in 11 mins. It doesn’t affect me cos i’ve already seen Revenge, but is it any wonder why people give up on tv to watch their shows.

How can they extend MKR by 15 minutes to finish at 8.45, and then still run more than 5 minutes late??? Forget who’s in charge of programming at Seven, who’s in charge of editing???

  12. The ABC, once almost accurate to the second, are getting rather lax with their EPG times lately… Wednesday this week and last week, they were running over 7 minutes late, as some stages (I know I missed the end of Problems as a result). Almost every night for the past fortnight they have been running at least 2 or 3 minutes late. Lift your game Aunty, EPG accuracy was the one thing that used to make you stand out from the crowd!

  13. David

Just a quick question..when u say full title is just The Force ok or does it have to be The Force: Behind the Line

I understand for things like Once should be Once Upon A Time

    Thanks

  14. @mellie0105 – last night’s “double ep” is up on Ten’s catchup as a single series of 10 linked parts here:
    ten.com.au/watch-tv-episodes-online.htm?movideo_p=46024&movideo_m=243614

Annoyingly they cut the closing credits of ep 5 and the opening of ep 6. Each ep has a unique recap of snippets from earlier in the series (not just the prev ep) that are relevant to that particular episode.

  15. I recorded Homeland, only to find I missed the last bit of the second episode. Since it s a recording I have no idea how much I missed, therefore I don’t know how late it ran. Ten has also failed to make the second episode available online. Note to self not to forget the ‘add 20 minutes” to my recordings.

  16. Nice of Nine to move Two and a Half Men from 9:30 to 9:00 last night (30/10) at the very last minute. I checked the EPG around 5pm and it was still in for 9:30. What idiot does this kind of thing and what possible motivation could he have?
